{this is a time of year when we desperately miss our
loved ones.. and my list of missing loved ones has grown
by leaps and bounds this year...}

~ Bobby's Last Dance ~

Looking at his hands
praying no one noticed
how they trembled.
He was feeling his age.
Life catching up with him.
Needing a left handed smoke.
He had peeked out back
Every one was in attendance.
Nosy bunch. His sisters kids.
Bull dogs he had called them.
The Girls weren't too bad,
he almost liked one of them.
But those four boys. Bull dogs.
Even he had been bitten.
Fighters every single one.
Better left alone.
Made him proud to be kin.
They would argue over his gift.
Him making monkey faces
as they fought to get his dishrags
with his hard earned money
hidden away on the inside.
She always wrapped them for him
laughing together like old times
as they chose her prettiest paper.
He loved her like no one else.
"Oh my sweet sister!" he smiled
thinking about their life. Twins.
Her husband was a wonderful man.
Their love for each other pure.
He had never found the dream
love they shared. He had tried.
God knows he had tried.
"Hurry up!" his Partner called.
"We need you to Dance."
Strut Miss Lucy. A children's game.
Every year they played silly games
But he liked getting the prizes.
With a wink and a nod at himself
He slipped his silly putty
back inside his front pocket.
"I can't wait" He yelled.
He knew he owned that game.
He danced through the house
down the walkway and across the yard.
Then Bowing to his partner
he stepped out into the joy
of Bobby's Last dance.

It has been December for a whole week already.. my tree is up.. colorful lights twinkling in the corner of my Living room and shining through the window to invite friends and family in for the Christmas season... I am not in the Holiday spirit.. I haven't a clue as to what to buy for gifts.. everyone has what they need and most of what they want.. If I buy a green shirt.. they will have wanted a blue hoodie.. I have been shopping twice and the second time we didn't even buy any gifts.. I don't like the crowds and the rush that goes along with Christmas shopping... I do try to get into the spirit but some how it seems to elude me more and more year after year.. I can only hope that between now and Christmas day I will catch the spirit from some of the children or Grand-children.. it's not that I don't want to have a Merry Christmas.. maybe a big box of chocolate covered cherries would help.. Thanks stopping by my blog today.. I welcome both comments and followers.. Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday.. HOT! ... With a Rain Lullaby..

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby." ~ Langston Hughes

"Let us keep the dance of rain our fathers kept and tread our dreams beneath the jungle sky."
~Arna Bontemps

"Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams." ~ Ashley Smith

This awful sight used to be the PRETTY little house that My Grandma called home.. her Yard was filled with PRETTY flowers....she always had the most beautiful azaleas in town.... Years of neglect by the current owners have allowed her home to become this UGLY eyesore... I hate to see it this way.. I spent many a hour sitting on those steps listening to the click clack of her knitting needles as she knitted some of us a sweater or maybe a baby blanket for a Church member.. I always loved this house.. IT was always spotlessly clean... and filled with wonderful smells as she baked pound
cakes.... ~
or fried chicken for a family picnic... She loved her little home.. This photo is of her with my Mom and my oldest Brother.. they are standing on her "flagstone walk" She paid us dimes and apples to pull the grass from between the stones..
.. I Love this Easter Photo..
Everyone dressed up back then.. I miss my Grandma.. I know My Mom thinks of her all the time.. and though I hate what has become of her house.. I am reminded that home is where love is.. and we each carry a little of her love with us..
Tonight we have enjoyed some much needed rain here.. the dogs were walking me way across the field when it started so we all got washed a little bit too.. Clyde and I could have made it back a little dryer but Bonnie can barely run with her big belly.. But she did her best... Clyde said we could leave her but I wouldn't let him abandon us... We were on a hot mouse trail before the downpour though.. I hate that we had to give that chase up.. ~ ( OH LORD!!! I LIE! I Hate MICE!!) ~~ I am going to have a heart attack and die way out there in the field of high grass if they ever really scare up a rat..
Thanks for stopping by my blog today.. I hope you will scroll down and enjoy my poetic offerings for today.. Have a wonderful Night!!

A Blue Bird in the Barber's Shop
~ a whimsical poem ~

A blue bird rushed the barber's shop
and perched upon the chair...

"I would ask a trim" said he...
but I haven't any hair"

"so could you fluff my feathers up?..
and brush away the dust?"

"I know I look an awful fright..
with all my feathers mussed.."

"I was on my morning flight you see
when a shrew gave me the grip.."

"I hope she hasn't left me bald..
I felt some feathers slip.."

"oh you just rest!!".. the Barber said
"I'll tend you in a while"

Too bad the bird had dropped his head
and missed the wicked smile..

That shrew.. she was the barbers wife..
he reached calmly for his net..

And now that blue bird sings each day
for he is her lovely pet..

Loving Life.. One face at the time!

"Poverty is a veil that obscures the face of greatness. An appeal is a mask covering the face of tribulation." ~ Kahlil Gibran

"The future is an opaque mirror. Anyone who tries to look into it sees nothing but the dim outlines of an old and worried face." ~ Jim Bishop

" Time has been transformed, and we have changed; it has advanced and set us in motion; it has unveiled its face, inspiring us with bewilderment and exhilaration."
~ Kahlil Gibran

~ Each week we are challenged to share a photo containing a face.. we are also given a theme.. The IHeartfaces theme this week is "Random Act of Kindness" It is further explained as a way that one has used their photography to help others.. I almost always have a camera.. on my desk.. in my backpack.. in the car.. and I love faces.. I am constantly snapping children and animals and the old folks.. I have lots of shots that no one knew I got.. I love a sneaky shot...

So on to the story..

I was once a single Mom to three kids.. holidays came and went without much fanfare in our house.. Santa came and brought things they needed and always a special gift.. Birthday parties were small .. But all in all their holidays were celebrated.. and then came Mother's Day.. I insisted that they spend that day with me.. I always cooked us a great meal and I always made a new photo of them for myself on that day.. a reminder to me and them that we had a special bond of love.. I would drag out a child's rocker or brush the ants off of a log.. but somehow I was going to get a great shot of them for that day.. a gift to me.... Mother's days came and went and children grow up and move out.. and then came the others.. friends with children and missing Dads... family with baby~daddies instead of husbands.. Mothers who loved their children.. and yes a few Dads in the same boat.. and holidays with no gifts.. It's not that they didn't have help.. most single parents do have some support system.. Grandparents.. friends.. Crazy aunts.. (that would be me!) but children... especially little children want to give gifts to their Mommies and Daddies too.. they can't if they have nothing to give.. I was babysitting a slew of single parent children when the idea occurred to me during a conversation Emily and I were having.. we going through some "junk" boxes.. she was amazed to find that they weren't junk after all but boxes full of handmade cards and letters and drawings from her and my two boys.. it was just before Mother's day and she confessed to me that she always wished for something to give me beside the colored picture of a flower the school handed out.. Poor thing can't draw a straight line.. She and I together hit on a plan.. out came the old white child's rocker and some fancy hair ribbons.. we dressed all of the daycare children up in the best we had here for them and while we did the photography Dave and Cooper made a "Dollar Tree" run for frames.. I told them just any will do but the guys chose well.. Friday afternoon the children could barely sit still as parents came and left with a special gift.. The children were excited to have a special gift for their Mommies.. Some of the Moms cried.. Emily and I cried together.. we carried on with that tradition for all holidays as long as I ran the daycare.. Many times now I think of all the children out there with no gifts to give except their love.. I wish I could make photo's of them all.. Do you know a single parent? Can you afford a dollar store frame or a small photo album??.. You have no idea how happy you could make a youngster by helping them make a photo project for his or her parent.. The children in my first Photo are Han and Dan.. as you can see they are happy to pose for me.. They are older now and may even forget that Friday so long ago.. when they stood at the window.. excited and happy waiting for their Mama to make it to the door.. where they attacked her with kisses and one small wrapped present.. a picture of them.. smiling and happy.. hearts filled with Love and the joy of having a gift they could give to their Mommy!

~ Project Life encourages us
