Thursday.. Dark Clouds Hovered and Threatened.. But No Rain... Three Things for Thursday!

"I fell in love, not deep, but I fell several times and then fell out."

"Life is like an onion: you peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep." Sandburg

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."

~ all by Carl Sandburg... who was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on January 6, 1878.. Carl Sandburg was an American writer and editor.. he was best known for his poetry... He won three Pulitzer Prizes.. two for his poetry and the third for a biography of Abraham Lincoln.. he also wrote a children's book of tales known as "Rootabaga Stories".. I have searched old book shops.. thrift stores.. and antique stores high and low hoping to find a copy of it for myself.. I have read some of the stories on-line and believe it or not... my favorite story is about seven rusty rats... and so

#1- Happy Birthday Carl Sandburg!

#2- On January 6, 1912, New Mexico became the forty-seventh state.. Known as the “Land of Enchantment.”.. New Mexico is the gem of the Southwest.. History.. Culture.. and landscape join together to form an impression that will never ... leave you once you have visited this beautiful state.. I am lucky enough to have been on two trips there to see my Son.. (Anthony).. His lovely Wife..(Tana).. and my Beautiful Grand-Daughter Maya.. They live in Santa Fe.. The Capital city of New Mexico....
.. hiking.. snowboarding.. art museums.. road runners.. waterfalls.. gorges.. .. Indian reservations.. wineries..mesas.. yucca.. caverns.. and the Rio Grand river all come together with the people there to truly enchant it's many visitors...

#3~ Alphabe-Thursday - The Letter M-

M is for Music~ a while back I was sent the word music by someone who wanted me to write a poem.. when someone sends me a word I think on it a little then I write a poem.. Every time it is different and sometimes I will like a list of words or a single word so much that I will write more than one thing from it... I love music..

Time To Dance- (music!)

Melodies pulsing through my soul
Undulating symphony of rock and roll
Strumming rhythms.. electric heat
Instrumental with a jazzy beat
Chords and lyrics.. Microphones
~~Bring delicious wiggles to my bones.

M is also for Mom- I am lucky enough to have once seen my Mom dance... with her twin brother..he was a smooth dancer.. he knew all the fancy steps.. at least that's what he once told me... I miss him tonight.. I am pretty sure that both him and my Mom love Music too.. ... That's my Mom in the Middle.. the four of us are half of her eight children... most of us don't jitterbug any more.. at least not when anyone is watching.. but we do tap our toes when we hear music...

A Wednesday Visit to My World! Won't You Come in From the Cold?..

"In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. The young they keep out of mischief; to the old they are a comfort and aid in their weakness, and those in the prime of life they incite to noble deeds."
- Aristotle

"We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over. So in a series of acts of kindness there is, at last, one which makes the heart run over.
- James Boswell

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - December 2010
I am almost sure that nothing is blooming out in my garden... It was barely freezing all day so I haven't been out and about any more than the animals demanded of me.. I did make a quick trip to my Mom's house to pick up her dogs or a visit while she visits with Trudy and then a quick stop at my favorite store for making photo's of plants and flowers.. they always have lovely blooms in their floral center.. today I chose two that I thought represented the season..

~ Poinsettia
Christmas Cactus~
~ I spotted these Ice covered trees at a Church next to my Mom's house today.. The sun hitting them was beautiful though it doesn't show so much here.. we thought maybe a sprinkler had been left on over night but we couldn't find one near these plants..

Wednesday and the Rain Keeps on Falling down.. Cooler at Last..

"If you cannot find it in yourself, where will you go for it?"

"I am not bothered by the fact that I am unknown. I am bothered when I do not know others."

"The small man thinks that small acts of goodness are of no benefit, and does not do them; and that small deeds of evil do no harm, and does not refrain from them. Hence, his wickedness becomes so great that it cannot be concealed, and his guilt so great that it cannot be pardoned."

ABC Wednesday- K is for...?!..
Keep-sakes.. ... kinfolk.. .. and Kisses!...

Kisses

kaleidoscope of kindnesses
rain down upon my back..

knitted hats and knots untied
for those you have a knack...

karma chose you for me
to bounce upon your knee

just another kid at heart
is what I seem to be

kettles boil and time will keep
until the kite has flown

for knights like you are hard to find
once the kindest years are gone

knowledge isn't always friend
in fact.. sometimes is foe

but you my friend are the best of kings
a peasant girl could know

kisses melt the coldest heart
like candy in the palm

but keepers come but once along
to the weary heart a balm

now knobs and knives and fishing things
we pack into a sack

and hand in hand we walk along
ahead.. we don't look back..

and as a Bonus because they are always fun....

Thursday Thunks: What's in a Name?

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Kimber's hair (where did she go?) and the number 333.

1. We are changing your name. You have no choice. You get to pick it, but we must approve it. You must have a good reason. OK, what is the name and reason?~ No way.. I like my name or parts of it anyway.. I already changed it a few times myself.. you can change it to .. mean old crazy lady.. if you must.. but otherwise.. Patsy suits me fine.. and after all that is a change from my real name..

2. I say Shotgun, you say?~ Run fool.. somebody is shooting at us!- that reminds me of a time when I walking the dogs and all of a sudden I heard six or seven shots and the limb fell off the tree next to me.. needless to say.. the third line of the first haiku above is how my dog walking adventure ended that night..

3. We are sending you away. Africa or Mexico? ~ am I in witness protection.. ( that might be fun.. who did I see do what.. to who.. ?)~ am I taking money with me? ... can I go see what each one looks like first?.. If I can I will.. but if not I'll go to Mexico.. I have heard that with ten dollars you can live like a king there.. and I happen to have ten dollars stashed for emergencies..

4. When you're home alone, do you still close the door when you use the restroom?~ I do because family.. as in KIDS.. have keys and they use them if I don't come to the door.. why do you care were you planning to peep?

5. Berleen told me that I have to ask a mean question. Tell us about a horrible memory.~ I remember once this mean person.. I think her name might have been Berleen.. anyway.. she tried to steal my natural identity and ship me off to Africa..or maybe it was Mexico.. she tried to confuse me by asking me a bunch of weird questions about using the bathroom and shotguns.. I shudder even now..

6. What are your plans for October? ~ I plan to make some cute jack-o-lanterns from soda bottles and light up my yard even though my neighbors think it's sinful.. I plan to rake up some leaves as they fall.. I might even blog.. I might even blog about my Jack-o-lanterns...

7. Is there anyone that you regret ever meeting ?~ No there is not.. I bet some people thought I would say there was.. but my life now is a reflection of all who have passed through it and some of them would leave great big holes if I had never met them.. so OK... maybe I regret meeting the guy that stole the towels from the hotel when I worked there.. but other than that no..

8. You have 3 months left to live, what do you do?~ I write letters to my family and friends.. I give away my dolls and some other stuff.. and I clean up this house.. then they find a cure and I live a hundred more years.. actually if I have three months to live I'd just as soon not know it.. who wants to clean house?

9. You wake up in an unfamiliar place, what is your first reaction?~ how much DID I drink?

10. Your phone rings at 4am, just before you kill this person, who do you expect it would be?~ it will be the damn sawmill.. either Dave left something on or some moron besides him left something on or they need Cooper to come to work.. and he is not answering his phone.. can you tell this happens a lot?..

11. You're having a bad day, what one thing can make your day better?~ writing usually helps..

12. You are doing a meme written by the blogosphere's shadiest character. Is there anything else that you should be doing right now? ~ I should be walking the dogs for their last time before bed.. they are waiting legs crossed and eye floating..

13. If money were not a problem.. where would you like to live? ~ Jeez you already shipped me off to Africa.. now you want ME to choose.. OK.. I choose right here.. I am at peace with-in here.. but can we buy out the neighbors and build me an ocean out back?... maybe I'll just move to an island I hear Alcatraz is empty.. or even a lighthouse that sits out in the ocean.. and sense money is no problem can I get food and drinks shipped in daily.. I'm gonna need a boat and some fancy swim wear too... snorkels and air tanks and some cute shorts for the pilots of planes flying over.. I can't look like a frump out there you know.. Dave will want the newest model of jet ski and some new fishing equipment.. I wonder if you can build a floating skateboard ramp?.. bird food will be on the list and chicken scratch too.. three floating pens should work for them.. the gardens might be a problem but hey with all the money in the world I think we can make it work.... PLEASE... get REAL.. I like it here!but I could use some money if you have any to spare...

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Thanks for stopping by tonight.. I hope you enjoyed your three things for Thursday tonight.. and hey I even gave a bonus tonight.. GO me!! I welcome comments and followers.. Have a great day!

Happy Monday! It's Labor Day!

"There is no real wealth but the labor of man."
~ Percy Bysshe Shelley

"If a laborer were to dream for twelve hours every night that he was a king, I believe he would be almost as happy as a king who should dream for twelve hours every night that he was a laborer." ~ Blaise Pascal

"People do not cooperate under the division of labor because they love or should love one another. They cooperate because this best serves their own interests."
~ Ludwig von Mises

======================
- I should have packed some food into this..
~ and set out for a final day here!!...

Happy Labor Day! A little History of Labor Day

Labor Day....President Grover Cleveland declared Labor Day to be the first Monday of September...

Labor It is a yearly national tribute to honor the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Most companies celebrate this holiday..

There is some confusion as to who first suggested a day to honor the labor of man..
with a holiday for workers..

Some say that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co founder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those workers.. But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has been Challenged... Many believe that Matthew Maguire.. a machinist actually founded the holiday. Either way.. it is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

The very first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, following the plans of the Central Labor Union. Many workers left their jobs and marched in a street parades and picnicked around town.. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883...

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday.. the Central Labor Union urged the Unions in other cities to join New York in celebration of a "working man's holiday" on that day. The idea spread as labor organizations continued to be formed and by 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country... Labor Day was founded when many in America worked 16 hour days in harsh work environments.. The workers demanded time to rest and better working conditions.. It was a day to recognize the challenges and the rights of workers...

Many other countries celebrate May Day a holiday very similar to our Labor Day, dedicated to workers' rights.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.. Even though I don't have an actual job I have labored all day today.. I have cooked and fed animals and people.. I have done laundry and entertained guests.. I have walked dogs and played hide and seek with puppies.. I have held off a mama and returned the babies to my chosen spot twice.. Apparently the new mama doesn't want children touching her pups.. I have washed dishes and faces.. I am thinking that I should have jumped up this morning and hurried to the beach.. Thanks for stopping by my blog today.. I welcome comments.. Happy Labor Day to you!

#1~ What is it? Can you guess?

~ I used to have a "What is it?" post on my blog every week.. then things to guess got harder and harder to find and guesses got rarer and rarer.. I figured folks were tired of the game.. But people have asked me when I was starting those guessing games back... I miss doing those posts.. Maybe I will bring it back for good soon.. I have a few pictures of items for guessing already saved up.. and learning as much as I can about Macro Photography by taking a gazillion photos of tiny things will be bound to give me a few more.. But tonight I was wondering if anyone could guess what this item is.. I will say that it is a very common item.. Most of us have seen it up close and yet we may not recognize it here.. I will be back tomorrow with an update and let you know what it was..

What do you think it is? Please leave me comment with your guess.. Or leave me a comment for any reason.. I welcome them.. I think that someone out there knows what this is.. is that someone you?

Three Word Wednesday ~ celebrates their 200th prompt

This weeks words are~ drink- feeble- predict

Wishes..

Pa wished the rain would never stop.. he wished he wasn't older that dirt.. he wished he had a drink or a joint or both...
Ma wished she could have found a mark and made some supper money before the storm.. But the night was still young.. and they were in the city that never sleeps..
Happily she reached out and took Pa by the hand.. she liked the way his wrinkles and hers lined up.. they had been wishing together for most of their life.. a lot longer than she could remember living anyway.. A sudden storm had caused her to run from the park.. dragging Pa along with her.. she laughed a little thinking about what they must have looked like flying along.. two old badgers like them.. coats flapping in the pouring rain.. Who would have ever predicted where they would be today.. she knew they couldn't stay here on the narrow stairs for very long.. some gang banger or crack head would be coming sooner or later to claim the dry space as his own.. Sometimes a girl had to do what a girl had to do.. She had learned that soon enough out here on the streets.. "Keep to yourself and keep alive".. she muttered..

"What you saying?... " Pa asked.. "Listen at that thunder".. Cocking his head to the left side he sighed.. "reminds me of when we lived in Charleston.. Hugo came and knocked us on our ass..."

"Yea" Ma said.. " Paid ten dollars a gallon for water to drink.." "yea" he agreed " till I decided to steal that truck... every body had plenty of water then... "

" I wish I had a nickle for every body that we gave water to back then.." she grumbled.. "Might have been enough to keep me and you afloat.."

Pa Pulled her closer to his side.. "You warm enough?" He wondered.. "we could take off some things if you're too hot.... I'm too hot.." He leered.. " I wish we had some satin sheets and a big old water bed.. You remember when we had that big old water bed don't you.. me and you and that crazy dog you had.. what was that dogs name again...?"

"You old pervert" she laughed " some cracked up.. gang banger might come along and make you wish you was dead... you keep your clothes right where they are... I remember that old bed.. and that crazy old dog.... Pearly May we called that dog.. crazy thing would bite her own self.."
"Ain't scared of no Gang Banger" .. He said... " you know better than that!"..

"Come on Pa.. " eyes glittering she pulled him to his feet.. as the sound of approaching hoodlums caught her attention.. "Time for me and you to move on... I sure hope this bunch ain't broke like the last ones were.." patting to the sharpened steel in her apron pocket... she let her shoulders drop .. and whispered.... " and this time ... please! .. won't you try to act feeble?"

Mad Kane.. shares a first line for a Limerick every Wednesday night..
I have also used the same three words to finish off a limerick of my own.. I love Limericks and though I don't follow the facebook group of Limerick off.. I do often write one of my own from her first line.. you should check out her page.. she is very funny..

Half Good~

A woman who worked for her Dad
loved to drink and always wore plaid..
I predict.. swore her Gran
a feeble minded man..
and for her that won't be half bad..

Wordful Wednesday~ for those of us who Just can't be quiet..

~ yesterday we had quite a storm.. I heard a sound much like the trickle of a fountain.. drip drip plop .. drip drip plop.. Plop..Plop.. Drip drip... Plop.. I looked everywhere trying my best to figure out where the wonderful rhythm was coming from... It wasn't the water falling into the rain buckets on the steps.. It wasn't the rain gutter running over.. Finally I spotted the source of the music.. right outside the window.. the pond was filled with giant elephant ears plants.. they would fill with rain drops from the storm and then tilt their huge leaf head and pour the water into the leaf below them.. over and over they filled and tilted.. Making a beautiful song in the storm.. Imagine my glee this morning to find a few leaves still holding a sparkling bulb of rain water right in it's center.. and if you look close at the drop you can see a reflection of the other giant leaves.. I have loved these plants from the time my Brother Davey gave me the first bulbs.. I love them even more now that I know they are so Musical!

~ I Thank you for stopping by my blog today.. I hope you enjoyed my photo's and words.. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Happy Sisters Day!

Me and My Sisters....

Sister's Day

Celebrated on the First Sunday in August.. Sister's Day recognizes being or having a sister... That means a lot of us will celebrate this special day... My Sisters are truly special and unique.. each of them different.. we may have argued and fought when we were younger.. always careful not to earn one of those quarter whippings my Daddy gave and my Mama paid for.. as she says in "one way or another".. It was always the sisters' fault of course.. they wouldn't let me wear their clothes.. one of them had on my shoes.. They shut the door to our room and said they had secrets.. they played with my paper dolls.. But, I will tell you one thing for sure.. when you get right down to it.. my sisters are some of the very best people I know.. they are kind and giving and all of them beautiful.. I am proud to have each and every one of them as sisters..

~ Martha...
All of us with Our Mama.. Aren't we beautiful..?
and Our two Sister in Laws..
~ Camella and Patricia..
I love all of my Sisters very much.. I am proud of them and all that they have accomplished in life.. I have cried and laughed with each of them.. We have sang around the piano and on the banks of a pond.. we have planned parties and played games with each others children.. We have danced at birthday parties and in the rain.. we have played and worked side by side.. I am blessed to call each and every one you my sisters.. Have a wonderful day!

Sister

Secrets we whispered in a four poster bed
In pajamas with stripes or nightgowns of red
Singing together Sweet Hour of Prayer
Trials and troubles and laughter we share
Each of us different.. in habits and trends
Remarkable the ladies.. My sisters.. My Friends..
