Tomorrow
I often fear the best of times
for hard times surely follow
to grasp a soul and fill it full
of a bitter pill to swallow
useless words are whispered low
to fill a heart that's hollow
till darkness dances on it's way
and sunshine fills the morrow..

Camera's seem to fall apart in my hands spitting out white photo's that have me screaming "Sunday School Words".. I will strive to do better... I hope you have a great day!

The Ride
waking bruised and weary
a nightmare on my mind
I had peddled all night long
as Grandma perched behind
up and down the hills we flew
to places far and near
I’d just set down to ponder all
when the Telephone bell I hear
My Grandma had favor
and asks me please please please
to check my new banana seat
for what had had skinned her knees..

While The Bonfires Burn
Baby Pumpkins coo
ghost and goblins worry Mom
sunset rises slow
Photographs and boos
Operation Halloween
blackest ghouls rejoice
Over and over
vulnerable figments cry
ogres dance with bones
One eerie howling
echoes the blood inclined
Spanish ruins shudder
Scarlet girdle falls
frowns drip from ancestor's eyes
wall tapestries creak
Evil seeks a host
resting with the innocent
sweeping holy space
chocolate clown smile
vicious darkness swallows whole
Pandora cries out
the defiled feast
disguised behind empty eyes
nothing pure remains
A tassel of hay
gripped tight in her pale hand
soulless eyes staring
Daylight brings no joy
virtuous one befouled
with bonfires burning

I have always loved Halloween.. every person in my life.. who was younger than me..
and might have had the misfortune to be close to me at Halloween knows that I will dress
you as an old person.. a fat person.. a pirate.. or a clown.. or maybe even a wild combination of all of those things in a skinny minute and drag you out the door and then follow youfrom house to house until you have enough candy for both of us.. for years.. I love to decorate and have even been known to throw a wild Halloween party for both kids and adults..This year and for a few before.. I tried for a quiet night with just my very own tricksters..I love to see the kids come and love to make their photos.. I give each of them a load of candy as if they are going no where else and always have a little left over.. just in case a strange child shows up.. I thank you for stopping by tonight and for sharing the spooky night with me.. I can hear the coyotes howling across the fields and have had a few shivers at the lonesome sound.. I welcome both comments and followers.. I hope you have a Boo-tiful Night.. Happy Halloween!

Sunday Scribbling- #288 -The Call-
The Phone Call
It was a chilly night in early spring.. I was doing my very best to get my supper dishes all washed up when my phone rang... I dried my hands and ran to the living room grabbed the phone and said "Hello!".. The response I got was "Teeheehee" then a buzz as they hung up... I checked the number. It was a number that seemed familiar and yet not one that I really knew... It was listed as unknown name on the caller ID.. but from the first three digits I knew it to be a cell phone.. Honestly I thought it was either a child playing with a parents phone or just a prank caller since they were giggling like crazy...
I went back to the kitchen and again began cleaning up... No sooner than I got my hands good and wet again than I heard the ring ring of the phone once more... I stopped what I was doing and came again to the phone answering with an annoyed Hellooo!.. This time I only got a half of a giggle and again the buzz... I looked on the box and it was the same number... Now I was really annoyed... I looked at the number again and looked in my own cell phone to see if it was someone I knew.. Nope. That number wasn't in my phone... I was standing there trying to think of who it could be when It rang again.. this time I was ready... I was standing beside the desk and I grabbed it on the first ring... "Do NOT hang up on me again!".. I yelled into the receiver... Silence.. Not a sound could I hear in return for my yell... "Now" I said taking a few deep breaths to calm myself down.. "Who is this?"
"Oh I can't tell you that" she answered with a giggle following her words..
"What number are you trying to call" I asked.... "Yours" she replied..
OK I'm now ready to choke this person who I am relatively sure is female and not very old...and from the sound of things right then did.. she didn't appear very bright... But Being the kindly;.. ( Hack hack) Wonderful;.. ( I'm choking myself here with these lies.) Grandmotherly.. ( OK so I am a grandma!) type of person that I am... I decided to play along with her for a minute or two...
"So now that you have me on the phone, Do you know my name?" I asked..
"Yea!" She said.."Well then who am I? What is my name?" I asked...
"You know your name! I know you know your own name!" She answered...
Deciding to take a different tactic I said " And then do I know your Name?"
"Yea" she said "I think you do but I can't tell you who I am right now."
"OK" says I, "But I was busy so I'm hanging up now since we don't even know who each other are." I had really had enough and still had dishes to wash.
"No wait Miss Patsy" she said.. "I gotta ask you some stuff!"
OK Now we were getting somewhere. She does appear to know my name and since she's calling me Miss Patsy she is most likely a friend of one of my children... Or she is one of the children I kept in daycare... Or... OK, She could still be anybody... But we have now established that she knows me...
I was just about to ask her what stuff she needed to ask me when she suddenly blurted out... " Does Cooper love me,.. I called him before but he said I was too young to call him and Now my baby daddy is gone and I was wondering if you think He might love me now that I'm a woman... I have a cute baby boy. 'Cept he cries all the time."... I was floored... Cooper is my son.. But hadn't lived here in quiet a while... He had been on the other side of the country for months training for a new job there... And even though this young girl knew me... I was clueless as to who she was...My mind was reeling.. I was pretty sure that he wasn't the baby daddy.. as she called it.. so that was at least a worry off my mind.
So we talked for a while this woman child and I... I assured her that I didn't want to hurt her feelings but that If a boy didn't like her It was nothing wrong with her it was just that sometimes people didn't match like that... And that if a young man told her she was too young to be calling him it was probably because he was actually too old to date her...
"Oh" she said "so it don't mean I'm ugly or nothing like that? Cause I ain't fat since I had the baby."
"And how old are you?" I asked still trying to gather a clue as to who she was. "And have you ever been to my House?"
"I'm fourteen, and No Mam I ain't never been to your house but I know where you stay because I used to love your son... But he said I was too young to call him so I called somebody else and now I have this baby.., he's cute and I love him,.. But He.. " .. and as if the child knew she was talking about him.. began to cry in the background...
I listened as she went to get her baby and cooed to him telling him she loved him and I sat here and held my phone and almost cried... I wanted to weep for her.. fourteen and already a Mother... I wanted to weep for the baby.. I pray he will have everything he needs to grow up strong and wonderful Like my son who is not his Father... I am thankful that My son turned away this young woman who was not old enough to date him... I am thankful that he didn't take advantage of her youth and innocence.. And I am sad even for the young man who left her to deal with all these things alone because he will miss so much... Babies are very special gifts.
Finally she returned to the phone and told me she had to hang up and feed her Boy... I asked her again to tell me her name and she refused... Saying that she was sorry to have bothered me... I asked her if there was anything I could do for her and she said That she had read my blog and that she had seen a poem I wrote for one of Cooper's friends .. she wondered if I would write her one too... One that would let her know that she was important ... After I hung up from her I sobbed... I still didn't know who she was.. . I hoped that the next time she called she would tell me...
I doubt that my son would know... Girls have been calling him since he was too young to even be interested in them... I used to fuss and tell him girls weren't supposed to call little boys... I often heard him tell girls that he was dating someone when he wasn't or tell the youngest ones not to call him again... But he was always kind about it... Always gentle with the girls feelings. He used to say he hated to hurt anyone... I told her to call me if she needed anything and she said she would... She giggled and said she might just call to talk and I told her she could... I did write her a poem... and I have included it here.. She called a few more times.. always just to ask some little question about the child or just to talk a minute..Several years have gone by since she last called and I think of her often.. She never would share her name with me and for the life of me I could never guess.. I hope that life has been kind to her and her son.. and that Motherhood has been her greatest journey!
I went back to the kitchen and again began cleaning up... No sooner than I got my hands good and wet again than I heard the ring ring of the phone once more... Look close at the following photo.. this is where you find yesterday's What is it.. I personally couldn't swear to what this thing is called.. I was told by a friend.. who knows a lot of stuff.. that it is called a guard rail turnbuckle.. I would just call it a nut and a bolt with lots of flat washers.. But whatever it is called.. it's function is to hold the guardrail on bridges tight.. thanks for stopping by my blog.. I welcome both comments and followers.. Have a great night..

What is IT?
Every once In a while I find something that I am interested in seeing how many of you know what the thing is.. this is certainly one of those things.. Do you know what the pictured item is.. where is it found?.. what is it used for.. ? Do you have any idea..? I stumbled onto this while trying to get close to another subject I wanted to photograph.. I bet all of you have passed one of these recently without even noticing it.. Have you seen one of these things lately.. someone out there knows what this is.. is that someone you?.. Please take a guess at what this thing is.. WHAT IS IT?? I will update tomorrow with the truth about what it is..

Rain Rain I Know We Need You... But Did You Have to Wet My Stuff...

but the distance one should keep from a wicked man cannot be measured."

I thought I saw a pink one.
my head upon the bowl
a gag a gaze a grunt or two
my belly how it rolled
I only though to omit
just one of seven sins
I was trying to remember which
when the room began to spin
a pretty pink pachyderm
my pride I must maintain
for every gift I give this night
is loss and never gain
a mouse of blue called me out
he told me I must stand
I hopped upon the pachyderm
and from the mouse we ran....

Oh what a long and busy day.. I had a house full of nearly teens.. three girls and one boy.. they all wanted to play Sims at once and we all know that won't work.. they played rock band once or twice but this one would all but squeal over the others choice of song.. finally I said .. "I have had enough...." .. well.. actually I didn't say that.. but I said some other stuff.. and ordered them to the dining table to write me a story... they draw a scrap of paper with a prompt on it.. I have to have at least five sentences... and when everyone is through they stand one at the time and tell us their story.. nothing too hard.. but I do want an illustration of some kind.. ok so I'm mean.. we are learning reading and writing skills.. spelling and art... they also help cook.. and toss corn at critters.... play hide the penny... and swim..
I gotta tell you.. kids think deep.. they claim I am making them keep a journal cause I'm mean and making them learn all summer.. the truth is that I do hope they learn something this summer.. they are really talented and I want them to know that.. but every time they present their stories I learn from them.. and that is worth every second of getting up early and listening to ... "she looked at me... she touched my phone.... she texted about me to Em"... all day.. I also made and canned 4 quarts and 7 pints of salsa and 20 quarts of squash today... time now to rest and cool off.. Thanks for stopping by to read a few of my words today.. I welcome both comments and followers... I hope you have a remarkable day..

Wednesday and I Think It Will Be a Hot One!

Acrostic Only- Acrostic Short Story-
Forgotten-
Fourteen years he had been gone.. the gossips had predicted his return a million times and in a million ways.. and now he stood at the top of the stairs and smoked.. dreading the creak of the rusty hinges and the jumble of plunder that waited behind the unlocked door..
Oddly enough he had returned hoping to be a welcome change in her life.. only to discover that she had forgotten all about him.. She had forgotten all about almost everything.. she had grinned at him from a puddle of tea that she had spilled and then decided to bathe in.. She had been sitting naked in the kitchen floor when he had arrived late last night.. " My Memory is rusty!" she had giggled.. " Who did you say you were?"
Reality was right now for her.. there was no yesterday in her mind.. No tomorrow or the next day either.. he had listened to her rambling on for hours last night.. she told him about her son who had gone to conquer the world.. she wondered where he was now and even though he told her again and again she didn't seem to hear that her lost boy had returned to the nest with a tangled body to match her tangled mind.. he hadn't wanted to come back here where nothing good had ever happened to him but he hadn't had much choice.. down to his last dollar and sick as a dog he had headed home at last..
Glory had never been his.. but he did enjoy the way she told his story.. she had told him of how many wonderful things he had accomplished in his life.. he sucked the dark smoke deep into his scarred lungs and wished even one of the grand things she dreamed up had been true.. and he was glad that she didn't know the truth about him.. It was almost better to have been forgotten..
Orange crayon hearts covered most of the door.. He wondered why the neighbors had never called the authorities to come and check on her.. was she never sick.. never violent.. never lost.. or did they just think she was weird and leave her alone to live in her own little world..
Terrible things could have happened to her in the city.. gangs and thugs were always looking for someone to use or even to hurt.. or kill.. Had she been a victim and just didn't know it.. how many awful things had she forgotten...
Time for him to stand up and do something right.. time to become the wonderful son that she thought he was.. tomorrow they were going on an adventure.. he could hear her now digging through boxes of old clothes looking for a nice dress.. he had promised her a trip to eat ice cream and they would go early in the morning.. right after they left the doctor's office..
Evening shadows filled the stairs.. Dane leaned his head against the wall and listened to her singing inside the apartment.. he had knocked around from one place to the other before joining the Navy.. he had done everything he could to stay away from home until he had earned his fortune.. a fortune that he had never been able to claim.. now he was back and from the looks of things he had returned home a day late and a dollar short..
"Never waits for no man" he heard her say to her imaginary friends.. and felt the tears begin when she added.. " but my son always says.. better late than never"
