The Sunday Whirl- Wordle #30
We Write Poems - Prompt #80

Pamela Sayers asked us to gather a minimum of twelve words, then write little snapshots in response to each word. Each small “poemlet” could stand on its’ own or perhaps have some relationship to the rest... as usual I have combined a few meme's to write what my heart and soul believed in..

A Dozen Thoughts

what impetus moves the bees
diligently.. sweetly

justifiable vindication..declared
my middle finger stands..

eloquent words sputtered
the Holy Book pounding the podium

no solace for the sinners
no cuddles for me

friendship swivels
on a tightrope with no balance

motionless I stand
but the chirping birds pass me by

pretty pink coral smoothed
deep in my blue jean pocket

rapidly the world spins on
no worries no worries man

point at your brother
homeless needy despairing

stand tall Samaritan
your strength is in the weary

the cleaning lady giggles
effortlessly attracting consideration

Ahhh... Another lunch hour has escaped me
while I was giving my life some thought

A Very Fine Tale...

Sarah and Bill
sat on the hill
a bucket in each of their hands
they toiled in the sun
and considered it fun
till the waves invaded their lands

their moat overflowed
the castle was bowed
a crab ran away with a shell
they stomped everything down
in the sand castle town
and ran home with a story to tell..

Lily's Friday Prediction-

The Climb

It had not been love at first sight... she had just began to shrivel when he pounced on her from the lowest limbs of the old tree.. He was a rare form of ugly.. one that few had ever seen and none had admired.. fanning her with a newspaper he had offered her a piece of gum to chew.. as if they were nothing more than humans on a desert camping trip...

"It's the only way to hide in plain view " He explained..

Knowing that it was time.. she followed him deep into the caverns.. where their ascension began...

Fibre- wretch- sip

Ransomed

The empty hummingbird feeder  in the basement's darkest corner..  annoyed her.. The ancient Chinese checker board with only seven marbles..  was even worse.. It lay on the table as if it's players had just this minute vanished.. and would shortly return to challenge her to a game.. Though every fibre of her being screamed escape..  She could only sip water and stare at the silly marbles.. She  knew she  looked a wretch.. deciding to draft a list.. she searched for a pen and paper..  If she was to be ransomed she would have  a comb and all of her marbles..

All Aboard- ( a haibun)

somehow we discovered that one could ride the train to the next town if you lay waiting just before the long curve.. where it slowed and the engineers view was blocked by the old pine forest.. everyone else already aboard.. my fat legs simply won't run fast enough.. I'll wait for them to return with the afternoon train..

Breaking-

lilies of the field
held in ketchup bottles
graced scarred tables
hot coffee filled the air

waiting nameless
temples throbbing
eyes still gritty
with last nights sins

thirteen hours
or a thousand years
all the same in the spiral
no tender mercies remain

just one wish I asked
of the face in the shaker
salty eyebrows raised
his isolation mauled

his incandescent voice
thundered silently in return
"Look about foolish one
there is no Safe Place!"

Anger

teeth clenched
tension creeping
up or down my spine..

rage flickered
meanness flared
burning up my mind..

the apple don't fall..
far from the ugly tree..
muttered neath my breath..

damn I'm a heifer..
the anger died..
a swift and sudden death..

what apple he asked
what tree he dared
and I cried..

Fingerprint Friday

There is a song by Steven Curtis Chapman that says:
I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know its true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God ...
Fingerprint Friday asks us to share our own "Fingerprints".. these are a few of mine..
.. The Family that plays together....... A field of fresh Hay..
.. a Teeny Tiny blossom..
<><><><><><><><><><>
Today has been long and tiring.. I don't know why people sometimes like to lash out at others when things are not going well for them.. we all do the best we can with what we have.. I do and I'm sure everyone else does too.. on the other hand I know that frustrations can be a heavy burden when you see someone near and dear to you suffering.. I don't like to get angry.. I am not nice when I am riled.. I love people as best I can and sometimes.. rarely.. even my very best doesn't suit.. Today has been one of those days.. phones have rung and rung and people have asked me things I didn't know the answer too.. I had to wake people who were too tired to let go of sleep.. my dogs are growling at something I can't see.. even the puppies have been barking..
I yelled shut up just as Dave was trying to get the door unlocked.. he stopped still.. I love my family.. every single one of them.. I would do anything I could for each of them.. from wipe their nose to rock their baby.. I will go when I am called morning or night.. I will hold them up when they can barely stand and hold their hand when they need a friend.. and sometimes I will be angry for just a second.. But I will toss it off because after all they might just need a hug..
Thanks for stopping by my blog today.. I do have another blog .. it has lots of photos....
You can find it here.. I welcome comments.. Have a great day!

... Weekend Wordsmith~ Signal
Three Word Wednesday~ abstain, halo, prayer .. ~

The Signal~ (flash fiction)

Fiona fought the urge to blast her horn.. Every day this week she had found the fat fourteen year old street preacher to be in her way as she tried to go about her sad little life.. he had been with her every morning as she rolled out of bed a five o'clock.. she had listened to his falsetto voice as she found her shoes and grabbed her fancy lunch box filled with fattening foods.. He had danced in the freezing night air as she found her way home after a long day tired and sometimes tipsy..He had been on all the news stations.. flaunting his aluminum foil halo and shouting that the sinners must abstain.. abstain from fragrant alcohol he shouted as he danced back and forth under the traffic signals at fifth and main.. abstain from lust and gluttony.. abstain from everything it seemed to Fiona..

Each day she had been stopped by the signal.. She had been taking this drive to work for nearly four years and never until him had she been stopped.. she hadn't even known there was a signal there until a few days ago.. Not much of a Church goer she wasn't much for the abstaining he shouted about.. she liked a fast nip in the evenings before heading home alone.. she liked food and she had even given in to lust a few times in her life.. .. abstain from fast cars and fast women he screamed as she flew past him on Friday afternoon.. She had been unable to resist and had flipped him off .. and now here she was again.. sitting at fifth and main and what was he doing.. He had dropped to his knees in the middle of her lane and had bowed his head in prayer... her fingers were itching to find the horn and to blow blow blow... forty times blow she thought to herself.. Abstain her conscience whispered.. Blow the devil in her shouted...Fingers stretched and reached for the horn.. she had just about found the silver strip when suddenly she heard tires screeching.. looking into her mirror she saw the truck sliding fast for her rear end..and with a blast of her horn she stomped the gas and flew through the green light.. she just knew she had killed the fat preacher boy but to her surprise he was no where to be found.. pulling to the side of the road she jumped out of her car and looked around .. there was no fast moving truck.. there was no fat preacher boy.. there was no signal.. Or.. was there? ...a signal.. a sign.. a warning.. Fiona was flabbergasted but she was no fool.. she knelt down and picked up a tin foil halo.. that fluttered in the cool morning breeze.. it fit her head just fine.. abstain she shouted as she jumped back into her car and headed for a new life....

Today I was remembering... sometimes a word will make you think.. I remember the first time I ever REMEMBER hearing the word Embellish..

"Don't embellish Patsy".. My grandma said...." just tell it like it is.. you add to many fancy words and stretch simple stories into long tales.... Now.. you get on over there and sit on that second step... Think about it and then afterwhile I'll ask you about how your dress hem got ripped out again.."

Head down I sat and wondered what embellish meant.. I knew I had told the truth.. anyone would think I was making it up about Sheron with her black kitty cat in her bicycle basket.. and how they had come got me.. we knew better than to go into the woods and surely the railroad track was off limits.. I told her I better not go... but she said it was the very bestest ever and ever secret.. that she had found back there.. how was I to know it was just an old shoe?... and then she said I could ride her bike... and she got on the handle bars.. I ain't got a bike so I'm not to good on them.. and then we came to the end of the road.. where the blackberries grow..and you remember it rained last week.. Uncle Neal ain't had a day off work yet so he ain't plowed that old road.. and it's got rain gullies...and then... them rain gullies are deep.. they are deeper than a bike tire.. I hit one and Sheron flew through the air.. not like she had wings though.. not like that.. she just flew like wham and flew.. and the grass is tall down there.. by the tracks..I tried to find her..I hid the bike in the woods.. If she was dead what would I do.. she wasn't dead.. I hoped she wasn't dead.. and I was looking and looking in the grass where I saw her go when she flew... If she was dead she woulda got wings.. and then she woulda flew..Bt I was scared already and then Sheron jumped out the grass and screamed at me.. she said I was too stupid.. I am NOT stupid but she said I was.. to even ride a bike and she said I couldn't ride hers anymore.. so She was mad at me and went to her own house... I followed her and then she screamed at me again.. she said "go home baby.. too stupid to ride a bike baby!".. so I ran and ran back to Aunt Lucy's fence.. Aunt Lucy and them wasn't home.. at least I don't think they were there.. the door was shut.. and I saw her new kitties .. I bet Sheron stole that black kitty.. and when I was trying to get over the fence...I was crying so hard because I am NOT a baby... and I got hung up... I hope my Mama is ok... they been gone after that baby all day.. Grandma won't let Reuben play out here in the yard with me and Jimmy.. she thinks we're babies too.. I was going to ask Grandma to fix my dress.. the hem is loose... and then she said I always tried to Embellish.. and said I had to think about it.. I wish I knew what I was supposed to think about.. always it...whatever it was.. and I sure do wish I knew what embellish meant.......

I don't intend to live a dramatic life.. I don't even mean to embellish things.. Maybe I just see things differently or maybe I tell things differently.. I don't really embellish do I?...?
I welcome comments.. Have a great day!

I Love to Learn New Things...

"Every man has a right to a Saturday night bath." ~ Lyndon B. Johnson

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." ~ William Shakespeare

"You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.
~ Scott Adams

Earlier this week I had a new visitor to my Blog.. He left me a comment that said I had engaged him.. I was of course thrilled with that.. I was thinking that was a good thing?.. then he invited me to his blog and I do love going on blog visits so I hurried right on over to check him out... It was there that I learned a new thing.. a new to me thing at least.. he had American Sentence poems on his blog.. I had never.. ever seen one that I remember.. never heard of them.. never wrote one myself.. that was not going to do... I liked them.. I wanted to write one.. I wanted to know more about them.. I googled and read and googled some more.. I thought many of the ones I found to be very profound and meaningful.. Most people compare them to a haiku though I think they would be more like senryu.. because of their often satirical nature.. Finally I felt that I had googled enough.. I tried to write a few of my own.. I might not be good at it yet.. these may be terrible when judged by some that were found when I googled them.. But these are mine.. and my first ones at that.. I even looked and looked for something to illustrate them with.. I hope you enjoy my first try at something new.. Mine are not as grand as his.. so I do hope you will visit his blog.. Thanks for a bump in a new direction Sepiru Chris...

~ "Direction" ~ Life spins me in so many directions.. I need a compass to find myself! 7/31/2010

.. ( and yes smarty pants..you know who you are... I do know the difference in a compass and a GPS device.. but mine has a compass in it..!)

~ "Lunch" ~ My stomach in fowl condition.. I could only eat soup and quackers.. 7/30/2010

~ "at 4 am" ~ The roosters are crowing in chorus... spurring the morning sun to rise... 7/31/2010

~ " High and Dry at the Courthouse ".. ~ Judged to be no longer useful~ a fountain thirsts in the courtyard... 7/31/2010

I hope you have enjoyed my American sentence poems.. or maybe I should only claim a try at them.. I know they aren't the best but they are what my Daddy would call "quick work".. something new.. a honest try.. They are fun.. You might enjoy writing one of them yourself.. I love learning new things.. and though these may not be perfect.. I think they see me off to a good start.. Do you know of a poetry form that I haven't tried yet.. send it along in a comment and I will surely give it a shot.. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a wonderful day!

Enticed by a Gaze...

"I'm writing a book. I've got the page numbers done." ~Steven Wright

"Justice is not to be taken by storm. She is to be wooed by slow advances."

"The world is before you and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in." ~James A. Baldwin

##########################################

Weekend Wordsmith is a blogspot for would-be writers to pick up the Prompt of the Week as a challenge to write-write-write! This weeks word is Gaze.. I was reminded of the apparent secret language that my parents shared by exchanging just a look.. I often thought that they must have shared one mind and always thought alike.. sometimes Mama would look at Daddy and he would smile and be off to the store.. returning a few minutes later with a Tab and a sweet cake for everyone.. or maybe a pack of crackers... I tried to follow their gazes.. I never saw either of them look at a drink bottle or an empty Cinnamon roll package.. I wonder if he ever brought back a bag of chips when she sent for candy bars?

Many things can be read in a simple gaze.. I am told that I often give people the evil eye.. I have recently seen that wicked look in some photo's of me.. I was frightened of my gaze and will try not to aim it at anyone I like ever again
. Why am I looking so mean? Even I don't know who I was looking at..
and Now on to my poetic offering for the word Gaze....

~ Enticed ~

deep within her gaze
silent invitations lie~
helplessly I rise
