Sepia Scenes...

~ This old Photo.. that I "borrowed" from a bunch of old 8mm slides.. almost appears to be a bridge to NOWHERE.. If I had to make a guess I'd say it is the Golden Gate.. But it is not labeled.. and I have never seen the real thing... Dave's Dad.. the late Mr. George.. made a gazillion and one photo's from as far away as Alaska and sent home to his wife and children.. I guess it was his way of letting them be a part of his work travels... This one started out as a blurry black and white but I like it better in Sepia.. I honestly wouldn't want to drive across a bridge that was shrouded in Mist like this one is.. Spooky!!

~ What is it about water that makes us cast away inhibitions and in many cases.. jump right in? Even the stodgiest old fogies will walk along the edge of the

water and get their toes wet in the ocean.. ~ from the great depths of the ocean to a narrow strip of plastic hooked to a water hose.. Water will always attract

those of us who love it..

~ What fun Cooper had daring the rest of us to join him in his slip.. sliding glee at Kirstin's Birthday Party.. It was plain that many of us adults really did want to run and slip and slide.. I have it on good authority that after the oldest of us left the young adults had a blast sliding across the plastic and right out onto the wet grass....

.. Welcome to the Wednesday Wordless edition..

Thanks for stopping by my busy world today.. I rushed around trying to get things done before the rain.. Then I counted all eleven drops as they fell onto the patio.. I hope you enjoyed your visit.. Feel free to comment and please do come again! Have a great day!

Wonderful Wednesday!

"Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose." ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

"Human beings can always be relied upon to exert, with vigor, their God-given right to be stupid." ~ Dean Koontz

"Drawing is the poet's written line, set down to see if there be a story worth telling, a truth worth revealing." ~ Irving Stone

~ I would love to be in this place.. floating on the cool clean water.. a bottle of liquid refreshment chilling in a basket close at hand..

####################
~ Dave and I were surprised to come across this
new-fangled train station way out in the middle of no where.. seeming out of place on a back road.. close to nothing important.. there is a gate between the rail road tracks and the front of the building.. but we honestly couldn't tell rather the building housed a real railway station or rather it was just the folly of some individual who lived next to train tracks.. Hattieville station it says.. and even in the photo you can see the schedule on the front of the building.. interesting to say the least.. Checking maps and encyclopedia entries on the history of rail roads.. I did discover Hattieville station on one of the old maps.. It appears to be in this same location.. I also discovered that the tracks in front of this lonesome station is what was once The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.. After several mergers over a number of years it is now a small part of CSX Transportation.. Maybe someone has decided to revitalize a building that was hidden by vines and old trees.. or maybe someone just decided on a new decorating scheme to celebrate the location of their new building on an old historical sight.... either way our curiosity was peeked..
next time I'm in that neck of the woods maybe I'll get Dave to stop and go up to the door.....

####################
Lensday! ~ The Lens Day Challenge for this week is History.

~ This Train station is a very real part of southern history.. passenger trains used to run from town to small town all up and down the east coast.. There are very.. very few train tracks left here but many of the old stations are still standing along wide grassy area's where the tracks used to lay.. This Station is privately owned and is located in Kline, South Carolina..

Three Word Wednesday asks us to write what we can from three words that they choose.. Just Three Words! This weeks words are.. gentle, praise, vulgar ..
This week.. as is often the case.. the words seemed to be at odds with each other.. and therefore at odds with me and me with them and dogs were barking and a phone called someone to work.. rush.. rush.. then finally.. as I made the third circle around the place.. hoping some dog would find a perfect spot.. I was trying the words different ways.. listening for something that struck.. this time it was the first line that leaped from my brain.. so many ways for a gentle one to be tormented.... as you read this poem think about what the words mean.. are you sure they mean what you think.. Please.. let me know if you like my writings.. I hope you enjoy your stop by my crazy world today.. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

One more Wednesday.. I have words to say!

"If you must speak ill of another, do not speak it, write it in the sand near the water's edge."
~ Napoleon Hill

"Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams - they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do - they all contain truths." ~ Muhammad Ali

"My books are like water; those of the great geniuses are wine. Fortunately, everybody drinks water." ~ Mark Twain

At the Water's edge... Watery Wednesday!
I had heard so many wonderful things about a place called Botany Bay.. A gift to the State of South Carolina it was once three separate cotton plantations.. This acreage also shelters many rare plants and animals.. and has some interesting historical sights... even though the remains of the old buildings and wells have been fenced.. to keep would be collectors from toting them away one piece at the time.. We still decided late in the day to make the long trip down to the coast to check it out for ourselves.. I was ready to wet my

feet with some salty waves.. This proud fellow was wading in one of the creeks we crossed over on our way to the parking area in the woods.. We also passed fields of giant sunflowers and tall corn stalks.. reaching upwards.. basking beautifully in the hot July sun.. It was somewhere around these corn stalks that I remembered that I had brought nothing cool and wet with me.. water water everywhere and not a drop to drink!

I expected a deserted two mile stretch of beach....
These ladies as well as others were all waiting for us when we got there.. we were a little surprised at the number of cars parked in neat lines deep in the woods.. I could smell the ocean but all I could see were huge lob lolly pines.. we still had a trek across the marsh to reach the sea.. The guard who signed us in said we had a half mile walk....On the beach there were a few people already there.. they were surfing and splashing... flying kites... and building castles .... walking and fishing... .. a few more people than I had hoped for..
but the water was gorgeous.. the shells were something else to see... the entire beach was littered with shells.. they have a rule that NO ONE takes a single shell from here.. I have a deep feeling that every once in a while one sneaks out.. What do you think?

Dave took a fast dip.. complaining of the million and three shells underfoot.. "even way out there!" he said shaking his fist at the water.. and then he sat beside me on a rock and read

over the map.... then he wrote notes in the sand as I read over the map... We traipsed back the half mile to the car after a while and on through the woods to look at chimneys and house ruins and old wells.. Even though not quiet what I expected.. I enjoyed my visit to Botany Bay.. Next time I will pack a bag lunch and maybe take a crowd..let everyone carry in there own food and then we will race to see who can look at everything the fastest... I will plan for a longer stay and I will absolutely take bottled water!! Have a wonderful watery Wednesday!

Sepia Scenes... Sepia Photo's .. ruins of plantation house and the chimney of a slave cabin..
Both protected sights located at Botany Bay~ Edisto Island.. South Carolina!

All that is left of a fancy plantation house!

.... can you imagine how life in this tiny slaves cabin revolved around this chimney.. they would have warmed themselves and cooked meals .. hung damp clothes to dry.... and almost everything else.. gathered around this central chimney..

Three Word Wednesday.. Each week they post three words.. Some of us do our very best to write something worth reading with them.. The words for this week are.. bane- acrid- tepid

What's Your Poison?

an acrid swill of wolf's bane
vigorously stirred into tepid lime sweet tea...
tearfully in black stands me..

Standing Beneath a Gibbous Moon....

"But, truly, I have wept too much! The Dawns are heartbreaking. Every moon is atrocious and every sun bitter." ~ Arthur Rimbaud

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass."
~ Anton Chekhov

"Everything has a natural explanation. The moon is not a god, but a great rock, and the sun a hot rock." ~ Anaxagoras

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Just looking up at the sky would you know what kind of moon this was?.. I wouldn't.. Tonight I know that it is a waxing gibbous moon.. Thanks to my grandson.. Mason.. I have learned a lot about the moon this last week.. every night as he and I give the dogs a final walk around the place before bedtime.. he explains the phases of the moon to me.. he has pointed out stars and tried to explain how to tell the difference in satellites and planets to his old Grandma.. I fear that I haven't soaked it all up as he has.. I am always amazed at how smart young kids are.. I don't think I knew words like astrology and and astronomy.. and I know I didn't know about the phases of a moon when I was ten years old.. I also didn't know how much blood a bat drinks in a day and what is in a snakes rattle.. and believe me.. I never take any one's word for anything.. Mason stood behind me every night after our walk and laughed as I looked up whatever had he shared .. we googled it all.. I have enjoyed the late night walks with our new dogs but I have really enjoyed them since Mason has been visiting.. who would have thought that his mini vacation would educate me?.. Thanks Mason!!
Mason with Bonnie and Clyde pose under the gibbous moon.. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by my blog today.. I hope you enjoy a moonlight walk when you can.. Have a great night!
Patsy

this weeks Three Words are ~ Feign.. Virtue.. Imply
There are people who believe that the moon affects the way people act and the things that they do.. eavesdropping on the law enforcement by means of a scanner I often hear them ask each other if the moon is full.. It does appear that there is more crime during certain stages of the moon.... maybe it does affect people.. OR maybe it's just that you can see better by the light of a full moon.. after all if I was digging in the field with a light shining you might pay me more attention than you would if I was only using moonlight.... with the moon in mind I twisted this weeks words into this poem..
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Beneath the Gibbous Moon

virtue squandered
beneath the gibbous moon
the feign of innocence
a burden to bear

daring to imply guilt
the jealous called me out
bothersome adolescence
who will miss you

I rest upon my shovel
bothersome burden buried
angelic virtue restored
beneath the gibbous moon

In the strongest current.. in deepest water..

resting almost mid-river.. permanently open..this old draw bridge has become diving platform to many of the local youth.. Known as Burton's Ferry landing this spot was once home to a booming ferry operation.. as you drive along highway 301.. Miles of old roads peak through the tree tops in the woods to lead to this spot where the old UN-used road dead ends at the river.. and the open bridge slowly rusts away.. a silent reminder to what used to be.. The afternoon that I was there to make this photo I was amazed to find campers with their tents erected beneath the old bridges and a great number of people enjoying the river in the late afternoon sunshine.. even I once swam out to this old draw bridge to climb up and then leap carelessly into the river.... I guess things haven't changed as mush as we like to think.. watching the young folks jumping into the water just as I did long ago before I was an antique.. brought a smile to my face.. and a flicker of joy to my old heart.. then I remembered all the snakes and alligators I had seen swimming in this very same river.. and with a shiver I stopped myself from calling out a "Y'all be careful" to the kids who by now were giving me the crazy lady look.. Giving Dave the "drive on" nod I only glanced back twice at the fun loving frolickers..

Wordless Wednesday... The Wednesday version of wordless any day.. wordless every day??

This is wordless for~

What a MESS!!

My Oldest brother.. David.. and his fine MESS!!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This week for Sepia Scenes I chose this replica of a Pirate ship that sits quietly in a cove almost as far south as one can go.. Part of a miniature golf course it has become a haven for water fowl.. I wonder what treasure might be hidden with-in the ship.. golf balls I imagine...

Watery Wednesday asks us to share photo's of watery subjects.. or place where water can be found.. This week I am sharing with you a photo made while I was Geo-caching.. I am kneeling by the healing waters of Healing Springs.. SC.. This water is believed to have healing properties..

According to tradition the Indians believed the water and it's healing properties were a gift from the great spirit. They led the British wounded to their secret waters during the American Revolution and the wounded were healed. This historical property has been deeded to God for public use. The day I was there we picked up bottles and a few beer cans.. Please leave places you visit as clean as it was when you got there.. in fact try to leave it cleaner if you can!
I hope you enjoyed your visit to my blog today... Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

A Wednesday Visit to MY World! Welcome!!!

"The world began without man, and it will complete itself without him."
~ Claude Levi-Strauss

"The Creative knows the great beginnings. The Receptive completes the finished things."
~ I Ching ~1150 BC

"Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that."

~ George Carlin

Each week Three Word Wednesday gives writers and those who would like to be writers a mid week prompt of creativity.. three words are chosen and we attempt to write something from the chosen words.. This weeks fine words are.. dread.. grasp.. and pacify..

demons holding sanity just out of his grasp

My Grandmother ironed with one of these ancient smoothing irons.. she heated hers on a pot-bellied .. coal burning...stove.. It now shares space with other old treasures on a shelf in my dining room.. I never look at it without thinking of her.. I love old things.. I admit to being spoiled by all the wonders of our modern society.. Can you even imagine having to survive in a kitchen like the one pictured here?..

&
Although it rarely happens.. today I was lucky enough to have a picture for Watery Wednesday that would also meet the challenge for the theme of "Clouds" offered by Lensday..

On this hot.. lazy day at the shore the water was wonderful and the clouds simply beautiful.. Puffy and white they hung in the blue sky.. changing into many things as they floated silently over head.. mesmerizing the eyes..the wonderful combination of salty air.. warm water and a beautiful sky... a sweet balm to sooth the mind and renew the spirit.. I surely need a trip to the shore!!

#######################################################

What a day! As Wednesdays usually go I guess it wasn't too bad.. Expecting and needing rain for the garden... I was still selfishly glad for the sunshine.. Plumb tuckered out by my new exercise routine.. dog walking 101.. I was glad that Dave was able to get a walking path mowed for me and our newest pet.. I don't mind walking and walking and walking till he finds the most perfect spot.. but it sure is easier to walk at 1am if the ground beneath your feet is not covered with tall grass and prickly weeds.. I am indeed a lucky woman... I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my blog and into my simple world today.. Thanks for stopping by!.. Have a great night!

Wednesday's Photos and Words..

"A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees."
~ William Blake

"A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love."
~ Saint Basil

"All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man... the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports."
~ Chief Seattle

****************************

Known simply as "The Perimeter" this tree stands a silent sentry that keeps party goers safe.. Our Lensday Challenge of today is trees.. Trees give us shade from the hot sun.. they freshen the air around them.. I have tied tires and sticks and even sacks filled with old clothes to the outstretched limbs of trees and then sat upon those things to swing for hours.. I have planted tender young trees and watched them grow and I have seen old trees struggle and finally fall.. I have even hugged a tree..

****************************************************

Watery Wednesday asks us each week to share a photo that shows our admiration for Water..I love water as much as I do trees.. I hate to see people toss litter of any kind into water.. I love to stroll along the beach listening to the sound of the waves as they roll across the sand.. washing away even the footprints that would show that I was there.. Lately the beaches are often crowded and many times littered.. I ask everyone to do their part to keep our waters clean and litter free!

*************************************

A replica of a vessel from days gone by this beauty looks as if it could have sailed the seven seas.. I can almost imagine pirates with swords drawn leaping on to it's polished deck.. no pity for the simple sailors as they forced them to walk the plank.. after all pirates needed spices and silk as much as they needed rum and gold..

*******************************************
Three Word Wednesday offers us these words top write something from this week.....fear, ignore, weightless

This has been a wonderful.. even if tiring.. week.. we have planted and trimmed and hatched and accepted and give away critters.. some of us have rambled in the woods and sunk up to our parts in the muddy pits of the swamp... searching and finding and not finding...but through it all we have laughed... I hope everyone out there had a wonderful Wednesday!
