Too Hot to Breath!

~ Doesn't this beautiful spot look like paradise.. Cool and refreshing.. It feels like it's 500* in the shade.. I know it isn't.. but it sure is hot.. rain has teased me for the last week and even dripped a little on all area's except here.. Actually I think four fat drops did fall on top of the barn yesterday..as I saw four narrow wet stripes when the dogs and I panted around the place late yesterday afternoon.. I have been shaking Cooper's treasured rain stick all day and as soon as it's dark I plan on doing the butt naked rain dance out by the chicken yard... So if a violent storm comes up later y'all will know what happened.. If you would like to then you could do your own dance too.. surely if we all do the butt naked rain dance at once.. we will scare up a nice storm that will cool things off..The chickens are rolling around in the dirt stirring up a cloud of dry dust and the pig lies grunting in the mud.. I am sure she was inviting me to join her earlier and believe me.. if not for the smell I just might.. I wish I knew where there was a good.. clean.. cold creek that we could go and lay in until we were cool.. Ah the good old summer time!!..

On a good note my peas and corn fresh from the garden made a delicious meal.. we had those for lunch along with some sliced red tomatoes.. also from our garden.. I cooked some sausages and some garlic bread to round things out but I could have just had the veggies myself.. I sure hope that where ever you are you are staying out of the heat... realizing that it is way too hot to do much of anything I have posted a few poems for you to think about until time for the rain dances to begin.. Maya plays a kazoo on the Plaza in Santa Fe.. New Mexico! We danced and sang .. Drank coffee and watched a bull dog leap from his masters.. rainbow striped.. boxer brief.. clad butt... Oh what fun.. I miss the plaza!

Mason plays music on recycled brake drums and rotors and on a twisting turning set of pipes at the Children's Museum in New Mexico... I love their outside musical instrument center.. Made from all recycled parts they have giant wind chimes and twisting pipes and boards and many many musical noisy things..

Listening to the music of night birds outside my window... I think of all the ways to make music.. singing... laughing... drumming.... shaking a dried gourd.. The howl of a dog accompanying a siren.. the creak of old bones when I get up and around... a baby's breathing is the sweetest music I know of and Dave's quiet snores is the music I listen to the most.. Where do you find music? I find music everyday.. somewhere.. For me.. the best music is the simple music of everyday life! Have a wonderful.. musical day!

An Artist's Birthday!

I feel that I must mention that today is the birth date of Leonard Bernstein...

Leonard Bernstein was born at Lawrence, Massachusetts on this day in 1918. He was the first composer and conductor to be educated in the United States to receive acclaim and recognition worldwide.... By the time he reached the age of 25 he had brought a whole new kind of glory to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.His exuberance and dramatic style caught the heart of America, bringing classical music to thousands of people from diverse backgrounds. More than any American conductor before him, Bernstein expanded the audience of classical music while maintaining a deep artistic integrity. He composed symphonic works and wrote the scores for many of the still popular musicals such as West Side Story, Candide and On the Town....
For On the Waterfront he received an Academy Award. He was simply adored by the public and a major social figure in New York. Although he was a man of many accomplishments he was proudest of his achievements as a teacher... He made classical music popular through a number of television appearances .. Including a series called "Young People's Concerts" that was shown on the Public Broadcast stations...

Bernstein died of on October 14th, 1990~ of pneumonia and a Pleural tumor only five days after his retirement.. According to the New York Times , he was "one of the most prodigally talented and successful musicians in American history."


You can actually listen to some of his music here... If you are interested... I was a little but surprised to find that he wrote the music for one of my favorites from way back.. Somewhere!
