Saturday.. Is Hindsight Really 20/20??

"Poetry may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves."
~T. S. Eliot

"Inside my empty bottle I was constructing a lighthouse while all the others were making ships." ~ Charles Simic

"Traditional scientific method has always been at the very best, 20 - 20 hindsight. It's good for seeing where you've been. It's good for testing the truth of what you think you know, but it can't tell you where you ought to go."
~ Robert M. Pirsig

~ National Lighthouse Day:
National Lighthouse Day honors and commemorates a beacon of light that symbolizes safety and

security for boats at sea. ~ Hunting Island Lighthouse..

On August 7, 1789, the Federal Government took over responsibility for building and operating our nation's lighthouses.. Recognizing the importance to ships at sea to find safe harbor during fog and storms... Through the years.. lighthouses have saved many ships.. and many lives. Lighthouses have shined their powerful, sweeping lights.. Guiding ships of all kinds to find their way to port during stormy weather. With the new technology of radar and GPS.. lighthouses have taken a back seat in guiding ships to port. However, they remain the universal symbol of safe harbor to ships and communities that rely upon the sea for their livelihood... Though I have only climbed to the top of one Lighthouse so far in my life.. I think that they are very beautiful.. and that the light keepers .. and their families.. who tended them through the darkest of nights were truly hero's..

Saturday Centus #14- This weeks prompt is.. ~Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear...

This is my first try at this Meme.. we are given a word or phrase and asked to write something one hundred words long from the prompt.. the prompt words are not counted.. we are then asked to leave our link on their blog and to PLEASE! visit the blogs of others who have also left their links... I hope you enjoy my Poem.. How wonderful is our view.. from hindsight...
Sometimes I wonder if Hindsight is really 20/20?

Hindsight~

dust and bones.. diamonds and rust
lovers and heroes.. hearts that have gone bust
treasures buried.. promises un-kept
laughter we shared .. tears we have wept
selfish indifference.. well honed through the years
Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear
the past runs behind us.. a quickened foot race
running and ruining.. our hearts can't keep pace
in foresight the lovers.. where friends once had been
then not even lovers.. and all friendship ends
ignoring.. uncaring.. till blue eyes cried dry
just waiting on better .. as decades fly by
with words and looks.. pierced to the bone
she's praying that hindsight.. won't find you alone...

Three Things for Thursday!

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby."
- Langston Hughes

"Do not, on a rainy day, ask your child what he feels like doing, because I assure you that what he feels like doing, you won't feel like watching."
- Fran Lebowitz

"Some people are making such thorough preparation for rainy days that they aren't enjoying today's sunshine."

#2~ An acrostic poem.. look for a phrase along the edge..

Blessings

Bible thumpers you call us
Less than willing to believe
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
Scientific facts.. easier to trust
Something real to believe you once said
I smiled.. having walked down the same road myself
No need for me to let breath go wasted
Goodness and Mercy will find you yet
Should you ever take the time to count

Cant you even count that high
Over and over I hear your rant
Underpaid.. under loved.. pitiful you
Never take for granted the truth of life
Tender moments overlooked
Even the smallest of blessings
Deserves to be recognized

Over and over I sang out loud
Never minding that my throat is dry
Eventually you slept.. peaceful at last

Barely able now to recall
Years of lean times.. basics the blessings

Oh how I cried and prayed
Needing something real to hold on to
Every day a trial.. every moment a blessing.

So Many Words... So little time!

"If the First Amendment means anything, it means that a state has no business telling a man, sitting alone in his house, what books he may read or what films he may watch."

"The measure of a country's greatness is its ability to retain compassion in times of crisis."

"Sometimes history takes things into its own hands."

All of these quotes are by Thurgood Marshall.. Thoroughgood Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 2nd in 1908. He didn't like writing such a long name, so while in second grade.. he shortened it to suit himself... When he was naughty in school.. his punishment was to copy the Constitution of the United States.. . After high school at Baltimore and Lincoln University at Oxford, Pennsylvania, he wanted to study law at the University of Maryland... At that time, the school's segregation policy would not allow him to attend there and he took his law degree at Howard University School of Law.. graduating first in his class. He went to work for the NAACP and started winning civil rights cases, including Brown v. Board of Education. President Johnson made him the first black Supreme Court justice in 1967.

I hope each and every one of you are having a wonderful and safe holiday week-end.. Dave and I are staying at home and will be grilling some chicken and vegetables later today.. Please remember the military men and women who are stationed all over the world.. who give so much.. to insure our Independence! Many of you will enjoy fireworks and other displays of freedom tonight and tomorrow in celebration of Independence.. Please remember those who often give their lives that the rest of us may celebrate this holiday!
May God Bless the USA!
Patsy

Independence

Individual choices.. Identities allowed
No King to rule.. to none we bow
Determined are you to reach the top
Each of us can rise or flop
Perhaps you're one who doesn't care
Even that's allowed.. It is! I swear!
No one will ever force you to matter
Dance if you would at the foot of my ladder
Energy and drive heeds freedoms call
New recruits prepared to fall
Can we ever forget the price they pay
Ever thankful for Independence day!

I have combined two word lists this week to write the following short piece..
I hope you enjoy the short story..

This week's words from~ Three Word Wednesday!~ hassle, inject, wealth

This weeks words from~ Word Beads!~ Gilt -Irritable- Corporation - All -Disable

Banishment

The loud oinks of the pet gilt made Sallie irritable.. She had always hated the rule that Corporation decided who or what would become a mother.. Just another part of their controlling schemes.. All decisions were.. of course.. decided by whatever scheme they thought would bring the powerful men the most wealth.. At only seventeen.. She had been one of the first to be injected with the disable serum.. They pretended that it was to save her the hassle of birth control .. They had even gone as far as to promise her that her turn to be a mother.. would come.. That was only two weeks before they had married her to the handsome drone that she knew as Adam.. They had been together for many years now.. She had aged through the years but Adam had remained the very same.. Green eyes following her around and sending his reports straight to corporation.. She wasn't surprised that they had called her in for an interview.. but she had been very careful.. Being one of the corporations chosen travelers had been perfect .. She hadn't minded the long journeys to outer zones.. It was in fact on her very first journey that she had given birth to her son.. unknowingly pregnant before the serum was administered she had been surprised by an onset of pain just before reaching her destination.. Luckily for her the zone she had entered had many babies born that year and one more hadn't even been noticed.. She had been lucky to have been found.. lost and confused.. by the old Granger who loved her son almost as much as he loved the extra provisions that Sallie's trips provided for him.. He had raised the boy to be a bright and cheerful lad.. though she had complained to Adam repeatedly that the boy was slow witted.. Sallie had planned well.. Adam had reported her theft of food just as she had known he would.. He had also reported her dislike of the zone where she had spent her very first mission.. and her almost obscene hatred of the nasty old Granger and his son.... Hands clasped behind her back.. she wept.. as they read out the sentence that she welcomed.. Banishment... to the old Granger's cabin for the rest of her life..

Too Hot to Breath!

"To love is not to look at one another: it is to look, together, in the same direction." ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

"Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn."
~ John Wesley

"For one swallow does not make a summer, nor does one day; and so too one day, or a short time, does not make a man blessed and happy." ~ Aristotle

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Doesn't this beautiful spot look like paradise.. Cool and refreshing.. It feels like it's 500* in the shade.. I know it isn't.. but it sure is hot.. rain has teased me for the last week and even dripped a little on all area's except here.. Actually I think four fat drops did fall on top of the barn yesterday..as I saw four narrow wet stripes when the dogs and I panted around the place late yesterday afternoon.. I have been shaking Cooper's treasured rain stick all day and as soon as it's dark I plan on doing the butt naked rain dance out by the chicken yard... So if a violent storm comes up later y'all will know what happened.. If you would like to then you could do your own dance too.. surely if we all do the butt naked rain dance at once.. we will scare up a nice storm that will cool things off..The chickens are rolling around in the dirt stirring up a cloud of dry dust and the pig lies grunting in the mud.. I am sure she was inviting me to join her earlier and believe me.. if not for the smell I just might.. I wish I knew where there was a good.. clean.. cold creek that we could go and lay in until we were cool.. Ah the good old summer time!!..
On a good note my peas and corn fresh from the garden made a delicious meal.. we had those for lunch along with some sliced red tomatoes.. also from our garden.. I cooked some sausages and some garlic bread to round things out but I could have just had the veggies myself.. I sure hope that where ever you are you are staying out of the heat... realizing that it is way too hot to do much of anything I have posted a few poems for you to think about until time for the rain dances to begin.. Have a safe and wonderful summer day!
It's a Thunderous Thursday!
"I have forced myself to begin writing when I've been utterly exhausted, when I've felt my soul as thin as a playing card ... and somehow the activity of writing changes everything." ~ Joyce Carol Oates
"You and I know that there is a correlation between the creative and the screwball. So we must suffer the screwball gladly." ~ Kingman Brewster Jr.
"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
~ C. S. Lewis
Today is Thursday.. the day of the week that I share three things with my readers.. welcome to my blog today! .. I Sit listening to the thunderous roar of a storm that rides a hot wind closer and closer to us.. I am keeping a wary eye on the wind that whips the huge old trees in my yard this way and that.. I would hate for any of them to fall.. not only would I hate to be without their shade but I am very aware that they might crush this old Trailer that I call home.. We have been very lucky so far with these old oak trees... all around us many of the neighbor's trees have toppled in the last few years.. we have had limbs as big around as me to fall.. booming as they slammed into the ground.. but so far.. ( said with fingers crossed!) our trees have remained standing.. I am not afraid of storms.. in fact I enjoy them most of the time.. I have been known to venture out into a raging storm to get a dog and bring him into the house or to make sure windows were rolled up or even to drag drenched clothes from a line.. for many years I had an old rocker on the porch and would go there as soon as I had an idea that a storm was coming.. But today I will be keeping an eye out for the wind in my big trees.. the trees are old.. a few weeks ago a limb fell that could have smashed a person.. we know that we will have to have the trees took down someday.. But Lord I don't want to.. so I'll say a prayer for safe passage through the storm.. and watch from the window as the much needed rain falls from the roaring sky!.. Now.. on to the three things!
Thursday Challenge is a place for photographic fun and learning. A theme is announced on their site each week. You may either take a new photograph related in some way to the theme or select one that you have taken previously; Then submit your single permanent link there:
Wordless is now open any time any day..for your posting pleasure.. you can go wordless every day if you want to.. I do know that it is supposed to be wordless and I do try.. but wordless is really hard for someone who loves to talk as much as I do!..
My photo for today I call "Shared Responsibility"...
Dave and I wanted to live in the woods.. after buying this place we set about trying to plant our own little patch of woods.. we soon realized that some of our pines were way to close to each other.. earlier this year I was amazed to spot this nest resting on limbs from two separate trees.. each young pine holding on tightly to it's half of the birds nest..
#3- One Word Acrostic.. almost done now with the acrostic poem writing class I have been taking at Allpoetry.com I have learned many new and exciting things about writing these little poems with a hidden message.. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. I have done very well with it to if I do say so for myself.. I love to learn new ways to write poetry.. for this assignment we had to write two poems with hidden messages.. by writing a sentence and then using each word as a starting word for a line we more or less explain our title sentence.. this poem actually fits me very well.. I only have one more assignment before graduating this class... won't you wish me well on my final exam poem??
Moody Moody Monday!
"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart." ~ Elisabeth Foley
"The just is close to the people's heart, but the merciful is close to the heart of God." ~ Kahlil Gibran
"Money isn't the most important thing in life, but it's reasonably close to oxygen on the "gotta have it" scale." ~ Zig Ziglar
Moody Monday is a photo challenge that asks us each week to post photo's on their chosen theme.. this weeks theme is Close.. Close is defined by them as follows..
•being in or having proximity in space or time
•marked by similarity in degree, action, feeling, etc.
•having the parts or elements near to one another
I have chosen a few photo's to share for my own versions of CLOSE!
CLOSE to the water.. CLOSE to the edge..
"Hey!.. doesn't CLOSE count in hand grenades and horse shoes?.."
We are CLOSE to getting ice cream.. scrunch in CLOSE together now.. You children don't get too CLOSE to the railing!..
A little too CLOSE for comfort?
CLOSE to the top!
Close to time...Close together.. My CLOSEST friend.. Come a little CLOSER!
#################################################
Today I have been CLOSE to the ditch..CLOSE to the road..CLOSE to getting rooster spurred..CLOSE to catching my dove.. CLOSE to loosing my temper... CLOSE to loosing my cool and CLOSE to choking a few people and an animal or two.. I decided not to show photo's of those CLOSE things.. Choosing instead to show happy CLOSE things.. Just for good measure I even wrote a short acrostic poem about CLOSE~ I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my blog tonight.. Remember the old saying... "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" .. Have a great night!
Patsy
Close
Crazy life crowded with pain
Loving and leaving not ever again
On the run from feelings and winning the race
Suddenly you're there.. invading my space
Echos of laughter as close as can be
Write a What?? What?? What??
"Exhilaration is that feeling you get just after a great idea hits you, and just before you realize what's wrong with it."
~ Rex Harrison
"No iron can pierce the heart with such force as a period put just at the right place."
~ Isaac Babel
"Let thy speech be short, comprehending much in a few words."
~ Ecclesiastics
I think you will agree that these forms of acrostic poems might make you stop and say ..
"write a WHAT!"
That was my first thought when I glanced at the assignment for my on-line poetry writing class at Allpoetry.com..
they were actually very easy to write and I'll bet that most of you could even write your own..
each one has a hidden word or message in them.
The first one.. a mesostich~ has a word hidden right down the middle.. I chose my own name and then wrote the poem to fit what I feel about my own name..
The second one was even easier.. known as a Telestich~ it has a message or a word along the ending letters of each line.. for this one I used the word spider as I sat and gazed at one out the window.. I am quiet fond of spiders.. especially the giant green garden spiders that share the spaces beneath the trees here with us.. I do in fact have a spider tattoo on my shoulder..
The final form for this assignment was called a Cross acrostic.. it has a message or word spread across the poem.. the first letter of the first line.. the second letter on the second line and so on and so on and so on.. I have a saying.. I don't get angry.. I get even.. and this third acrostic talks about the pleasure we can get from plotting a new evenness!
I hope you enjoy the short poems for tonight and I hope today was a good day for you..
I know I have been missing a lot lately.. I continue to plan for Emily's upcoming wedding..
Have a great Night!
Rain .. Rain.. Rain.. COLD rain!
"The good writer seems to be writing about himself, but has his eye always on that thread of the Universe which runs through himself and all things." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Wait until you are hungry to say something, until there is an aching in you to speak."
~Natalie Goldberg
"Don't threaten me with love, baby. Let's just go walking in the rain." ~ Billie Holiday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It has rained and rained all day.. I have piddled around inside.. pickling quail eggs and besides that doing not much of anything all day.. I went through some old pictures..I have planned the foods I will carry to the poetry club feast tomorrow night and even wrote the poems that they assigned for us to bring with us.. I even wrote a poem for my class on AllPoetry.com.. I had waited and waited for months before writing this poem.. It wasn't that I didn't understand the concept.. I just couldn't decide on two words..

Acrosteleostics~ the third form of acrostic poem.. two words or two messages..one highlighted on each side..

I know the words love and hate have been used poetically for centuries.. I racked my brain to think of different words.. finally today as the rain fell outside I just wrote the poem that came to me when I first got the assignment.. I like it.. I hope you do to.. have a great day!

It's Harvest Time...

"Corn and grain, corn and grain, ~ All that falls shall rise again."
~ Wiccan Harvest Chant

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October."
~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

"As soon as the harvest is in, you're a migrant worker. Afterwards just a bum. "

A local farm.. cotton ready to harvest..

Tonight was our monthly Poetry club meeting.... I am always after them to do assignments.. to challenge each other to write poems from one meeting to the next.. Last month one of the men folks decided to agree with me.. he offered to come up with a word right then and there for us to write on.. I agreed.. they all said I had to choose the style of poetry and I chose acrostic.. then he gave us the word.. It was sparkle... I struggled with the word sparkle but finally did manage to string together two short acrostic poems in the 15 minutes writing time they decided on..At the end of the allotted time I lay my pen aside and turned my paper over.. It wasn't my very best work but then it wasn't the worse thing I ever wrote down either.. It would do for a rush.. Paul.. (who chose the word sparkle to begin with) had also laid his pen aside and was waiting for the others to at least pretend they were done..One of the ladies simply ripped her paper in half and declared sparkle to be a crazy word... another swore she couldn't read her own writing and would have to pass on reading hers.. another said that hers hadn't turned out to say what she meant and she would re-write it and read it another time.. Finally Paul and I both read our Sparkle.. acrostic poems.. I have got to tell you... his sparkled way more than mine...His words flowing and swaying as if he had weighed and measured each word carefully.. his sparkle as beautiful as fireworks against a night sky..... It was almost as if he had already written that poem and chosen the word sparkle just to suit it.. But regardless.. his poetry always sparkles!! All of the members of "The Sunshine Poetry Club" are very talented....

After we read of our sparkles and passions and fizzles and fireworks and all the other things that got covered in the sparkle poems.. a few of them decided that we should have an assignment.. a monthly challenge that would be decided in parts.. in other words.. I might decide on the poetry style and someone else would come up with a theme or a title or a word list..or even a word limit.. I suggested a word limit poem.. the next decider said it had to be twenty five words long.. excluding the title..and the third decider said there would be no theme.. that it could be about anything.. I was happy with that... I was already imagining a Halloween poem that could be written in just 25 words..

But.. there were some people left.. the next Lady declared a second poem and she rather liked the idea of Acrostics.. the second Lady of the second group said that word limits were going to be a problem for her and she would rather not have one so the word count was declared unlimited..and the Final tidbit was the title that the third lady told us she had been thinking of and was so glad that she was able to Choose.. She Chose Harvest Time... Harvest Time.. an acrostic.. of harvest time.. no word limit.... I couldn't believe it... I have always hated the theme of Harvest Time... when I was in sixth grade Mrs Davenport made us write an essay on the local practices of Harvest Time... Yuck.. don't get me wrong.. it's not the actual harvesting that I hate.. I enjoy that.. I love to can and preserve food.. I have a full pantry to prove that I am not too lazy to like Harvest Time.. But the words don't bend easily to rhyme or maybe they don't flow.. at least not for me.. I guess that for me... they don't sparkle!

I have struggled with the assignment for this whole month.. finally I get them all to agree to try and do a challenge each month and I am feeling very little from the theme.. Harvest Time.. Harvest Time.. Harvest Time.. I said it over and over this morning at 2 am.. I had already wrote one poem.. It flowed and ebbed and wove it's way through me.. I liked it..but it was long.. It had wrung from me everything I could muster up for Harvest Time.... But it was long.. maybe too long.. But they said no word limit.. Finally I decided to just free-write.. pretend you never even heard the term harvest time.. what does it mean.. let the pen take control.. write something even if it makes no sense.. And believe it or not.. It made some sense.. I went to the poetry club meeting tonight with head hanging.. I had the poems I had been challenged to write.. But I had struggled to get them done.. I am sharing the longest one with you tonight.. I am sure that between now and then You will get to see the others.. But for tonight I share with you my version of Harvest Time... Please enjoy!

Harvest Time

Honey combs swell with rich gooey nectar..
~~ Rich and smooth.. spun by the daintiest of bees..
~~ just waiting to be harvested by Uncle in his funny suit
~~~ and packed into grandma's old mason jars...
Autumn is upon us.. cooler nights
~~ Daddy with the hoe over his shoulder..
~~~ Snakes crawling looking for a warm place to sleep..
~~~~ Keep that hoe handy.. Just in case...
Raking leaves into huge colorful piles.. browns..
~~yellows and grays..several different greens..
~~~Run Run Run as fast as you can....Now JUMP!
~~~ Daddy laughed and held out the rake.. Raking leaves... again
Verily.. Verily.. God said there was a time for every season
~~ A time to live.. and laugh.. a time to sing
~~~ A time to cry.. a time to Plant
~~~ a time to Pluck that which was planted..
Exhaustion at the end of every day...
~~ Drinking water from the quart jar..waiting at the end of each row..
~~~ Every one working together.. peas to be shelled
~~~ Fodder to be pulled and tied up.. Butchering ..before Thanksgiving
Seeds gathered for another season.. the summer already gone...
~~Squirrels with fat cheeks ..scurrying from tree to tree ..across power lines..
~~~ gathering the last crumbs for the winter.. store houses filled.. ours and theirs..

Take the time to be grateful for a fine harvest..
~~ know that each of us has a season.. our own season.. to shine
~~~ share joy with those who's season is now.. accept and give with a free heart..
~~~waiting and waiting.. hoping your season is next...

Tumble.. Tumble.. roll away.. time after time.. minute by minute
~~ The days get shorter and shorter and shorter
~~~ a cold wind blows now.. whipping a frosty breath around your knees
~~~~ telling you to put on your shoes...

In front of a warm fire I wiggle my toes.. turning this way and that..
~~ warming myself from all sides.. inside and outside..twisting ..twisting
~~~ nights cool enough for a fire.. campfire cookouts.. hot coffee and friends..
Money in the bank?.. a nest egg to grow.. Or is it keeping up with the Joneses
~~ what would give you cause to say it was a grand harvest? a fair hall.. or a great shake..
~~would you share ..your more than enough.. with your family.. your friends..
~~ Would you share with Your enemies?
Even now I can see my Daddy with his hoe.. chopping the weeds away..
~~~ tending the plants that would feed us.. for a year at the time..
~~ Working a full time job.. and working the fields.. raising the food..
~~~ banking the taters.. and shucking the corn.. working through Harvest time..
~~~ as another winter is Born...

Just before we left the meeting.. our oldest member told me that I must choose the poetry style for the first of next months poem.. I was astounded by the Huh?s that rang out when I said Haiku... ten minutes and a few explanations later they had all promised to give ..what one member described as that funny Chinese poetry.. a try... they decided that it should be on the theme of Thanksgiving.. Then they decided that we should each find a new and different style of poetry and write a poem in our new style.. and bring some information to class about that style.. they then decreed that My second poem could not be a haiku since I already knew about that... and Finally one of the young men said we should all write a third poem for next Month on the theme of Rodney.. Rodney is a young teen aged son of the president of the club.. I am told that he has attended every meeting for nearly 15 years.. I have sat near him at every meeting I have went to for the last two years... he was the first member to befriend me really.. blind to the differences between us.. I will say no more than that I am a minority there... I am pretty sure I can write a poem on Rodney.. many of the others in this club are relatives of his.. I don't know him like they do.. but I watch and listen.. I see and learn.. I am not worried about the poems for next month.. I just thank goodness that they are over the need for words about Harvest Time!! Have a great night!!

Rainy Days and Mondays!!!

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." ~ George Bernard Shaw

"Peace is not won by those who fiercely guard their differences but by those who with open minds and hearts seek out connections." ~Katherine Paterson

"I am prepared to die, but there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill."
~ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moody Monday has their theme listed today as the word Shameful..
1. causing or meriting shame or disgrace; disgraceful
2. giving offense
I must admit that I never really thought of shameful as a mood.. I have searched every inch of this borrowed computer and thankfully I didn't find any pictures of anything I considered a shameful act..
I did find this one Of Emily.. I'm not sure rather this one is awe.. shock.. or shame.. I'm voting for shame.. I'm just glad this is the most shameful thing I could find.. Thanks Em.. Once again you have proved that I did a good job.. I don't think I have shameful kid out of the whole lot.. Now me on the other hand... I may have done some shameful things in my life.. I may have even had photo's of some of them.. But if I did they are trapped in the lifeless hard-drive of my poor deceased computer.... No evidence.. no shame!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shameful ~( an acrostic poem)

scandalous..sleazy..
humiliating distress
appalling.. atrocious
mean mannered at best
embarrassing expressions
flagrantly foul
upsetting mutterings
loathsome and loud..

Today has been a typical Monday.. It has rained all day.. ever since last night really..a nasty dreary misting rain.. a heavy clinging mess... The chickens hate it.. they get damp and fussy.. they don't lay as many eggs when its like this.. The dogs hate it.. they bark from inside their houses.. every once in a while a howling wail thrown in just to remind us that they are out there..
on the other side of the yard behind the heavy mist of dreariness.. The house birds flutter from the roosting sticks to their nest box and back again.. they puff up their feathers and chirp to each other.. in the cages that are side by side they will each sit on the side closest to the next bird.. Almost as if they are keeping each other warm .. even the pig has been fussy today.. I went in and out between showers to feed everyone and gather eggs.. Every time I went the pig hurried to the door of her pen.. waiting for me to offer her a sweet.. I wasn't worried about a treat for the pig.. I was mainly trying to feed everyone without catching a death of the cold or flu myself..
on My last trip out there just before dark.. Pork chop squealed and carried on like a crazy thing..
running back and forth and squealing at me... I was wondering what on earth was her problem when I realized she was pushing her food bowl in my direction.. She still had some good old Hog ration in her dish.. I wondered if she were trying to get me to bring her an apple.. I came inside and hurried back with a sliced apple for her.. she took the first slice from my hand and then the second and third.. grunting and oinking as she chomped on them.. I offered her another slice but she just grunted and lay down to rut with her nose in the soft ground..Just as I was shutting her door the bottom fell out and I got a cold shower of heavy rain.. I ran for the house.. slipping and sliding my way across a wet yard.. chickens clucking and squawking as I ran.. It was like they had planned it and were laughing at me as I ran for the house..it was shameful what I said to those hens.. and just as I got inside the rain slowed back down to it's steady heavy drizzle.. and how has your Monday been?
Have a great day!

It can't get much Weirder!!

"Action is at bottom a swinging and flailing of the arms to regain one's balance and keep afloat. " ~Eric Hoffer

"Every man should view himself as equally balanced: half good and half evil. Likewise, he should see the entire world as half good and half evil.... With a single good deed he will tip the scales for himself, and for the entire world, to the side of good. " ~Moshe ben Maimon

"Strength of character does not consist solely in having powerful feelings, but in maintaining one's balance in spite of them." ~ Carl von Clausewitz

In the city .. sometimes walls don't even look like walls.. This weird wall belongs to a Chapel in Dallas Texas ..

This is a wall of Trams... also in Dallas Texas..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
words for today are~ Eclipse ... Languish ... Velocity
Behind the Wall
Willfully erected..obstructing..
emotional velocity halted..
Armor.. imprisoning..
safe and secure.. spiritless..
Layers of pain.. eclipse
and enclose..restricting ..
Languish not behind the wall..
surrender to the magnitude of emotion..
Escape the enchantment of safety..
passions unleashed.. fireworks erupting
Delight in the wonder of Love..
thrill to the sensations of life!
~ rejoice as the bricks tumble..
~ shout as the wall falls....
Weird Laws
1:}~ In Mesquite, Texas it is illegal for kids to have unusual haircuts.
~ I kinda understand this law... I think it should also include weird colors like pink and green and even allow parents to make them wear a weird homemade watermelon costume if they color their hair pink and green striped... or a weird alien costume if they decide on blue and silver..All my kids had beautiful hair.. before they discovered the so called art of coloring it weird colors...
2:}~ In Oklahoma, people who make "ugly faces" at dogs may be fined and jailed.
~ Dave is a wonderful man.. until he sees a dog that he wants to "stare down" and acts all weird.. I don't understand what makes him decide to try this every once in a while.. I have seen dogs whimper and whine and crawl away from him.. I have also seen them try to eat him and bark and growl.. with their ears laid back as if they have spotted a weird monster..I hope he remembers this weird law in case we ever find ourselves in Oklahoma.. How weird would it be to go to jail for making "ugly faces" at dogs? I can just see Dave telling that weird fact to the other inmates....
3:}~In Cleveland, Ohio, women are forbidden from wearing patent leather shoes, lest men see reflections of their underwear... OK this law is really weird and stupid.. Don't men in Ohio have better things to do than to stare into women's shoes hoping for a reflection from their drawers? What if they don't wear underwear? Can they then wear patent leather shoes since they wouldn't have an underwear reflection? How weird does a man have to be to try and look at an underwear reflection anyway? They can go into any shopping mall and look at and touch underwear.. Why get a kink in their neck trying to get a reflection from some out of style patent leather shoe?? Next time I go to Ohio I better not catch any weird man trying to see a reflection of my drawers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Weird Questions!!

1:-} ~You are standing in line (grocery store, bank, etc.), and someone gets in line behind you that stinks. The smell is so bad that people in line in front of you turn around and look at you as if you are the one they smell. Do you cover your nose, hold your breath, breathe through your mouth or just get out of line altogether? ~ It would be weird for me not to look at them and say.. "damn BO .. you stink!" If someone stinks as bad as this weird question says.. then their nose must be broke.. I would have no problem telling the lookers to quit looking at me either.. I am weird in that I don't care what the public thinks of me too much.. I am not holding my breath to stand in some line.. is there another line I can move too? Is this place weird and has only one line? How long is this line? Why would I be weird and breath through my mouth ? Man you can taste smells.. It would be weird to be willing to taste a stink that was too bad too smell..
Maybe I can come back later..

2:-} ~If we were to call your 6Th grade teacher, what would they say about you? ~ That might be a weird phone call since I know a couple of my 6Th grade teachers are dead.. One recently applauded me as I read a poem about Rosa Parks at the Local Black History celebration... and the rest for some weird reason moved away after they taught me.. If you could find them and they are still alive.. they would tell you what a wonderful and smart girl I was.. and they would be weird and say I talked too much in their class.. when report cards came out Daddy always looked at the back of mine first.. That's where they always tattled on me for talking.. I don't know why they were so weird.. I was only trying to help the kids who didn't understand what was going on.. without me they would have fell behind.. then the teacher got all weird and tattled on me..

3:-} ~ What does your sibling do for a living? ~ I wish one of them had some weird and glorious job.. that would serve you right for always being weird and asking nosy questions.. why do you care what my family does for a living? Are you some weird tax person or something? #1-Electrician... #2-Housewife/daycare provider.. #3- electrician.. #4- HP- something to do with power plants and outages.. (call me weird I don't know what he really does..)... #5-Good cop/bad cop- depends on what your weird behind did.. #6-I go here.. I'm a weirdo/ housewife/chicken keeper/quail-raiser and a writer.. #7-special agent to the weird and crazy people watchers/spy/something weird that we can't talk about..( he might be watching you!)..
#8- payroll/book keeper/secretary/employee advocate...are we weird enough for you?

4:-} ~Do you know the names of every member of the family who lives next door to you? ~How weird.. Do you know Janet and Rene' and their sons Jason and Josh?? How weird!! I know the names of the couple who has lived there ever since I moved here.. I know their kids names and the names of their oldest sons wife and their children.. I never met the other son's wife though I know he has one and a child.. I have lived here for 17 years and have been inside their house once.. they have never been inside mine although we often speak if we are all outside at the same time... We are all weird.. in fact the entire neighborhood is weird like that.. I know the names of all of the family members that have been here all along.. I know some of the in-laws ..we live next door to each other .. we are not friends really.. It might sound weird to you.. It works for us.. I think all five of the neighborhood families might be weird just like me.. We once had a family who moved in and lived here for 4 years and I am the only person who ever spoke to them... I gave them veggies from my garden.. They said we were all weirdos when they left.. that lot has stayed vacant .. one of the neighbors bought it so that it would stay vacant.. YES!! I SAID!! WE ARE WEIRD!

5:-} ~If someone said they would pay you ten million dollars to have sex in a mud puddle behind the local funeral parlor.. what would be the first thing you would buy? Why am I surprised that you would ask me something weird like this? Why do they call them funeral Parlors? I think that is a weird name for the place myself.. Has it been raining or are they making a special mud puddle just for the weird event? You ask this weird question as if it is a given that I am accepting this weird offer.. Who am I having sex with? Do I get to choose or is the weird person who will join me already chosen? How will they know if I had sex in the mud puddle? Is some weirdo watching? Am I going to be paid in cash? I will tell you straight up that I am buying a new computer first.. then a new car.. no wait.. Maybe I'll be weird and get a truck instead.. but unless I'm being paid in cash and can bring my own partner.. never mind.. It would be too weird to have sex in a mud puddle with a stranger..

Now that I am done with the weird questions for today.. I have got to tell you that This week has been so weird.. ever since last week really.. Dave's sister was here and we had a great time.. kids in and out.. Mason here for the week-end.. every time I left my computer and came back it was blank.. I was about to decide that for some weird reason someone or even a weird computer booger was deleting all my work.. That would have been weird but I was almost ready think it even so.. Then Monday my computer worked like a charm.. I was proud of it.. I wrote a blog and did some other writing.. I did all my entrecard stuff and played some games...
I went to bed thinking maybe it liked me again.. Then yesterday morning I woke up and came in here to a black screen that when I moved my mouse changed to say only NTSDR(or some letter combo at least) Compressed.. Press ctrl alt del to attempt restart.. What does that weird mess mean??? It means my computer died.. I had a spare but it doesn't run the DSL/ATT software.. wont' and can't because it is older than dirt.. Yes! I am computer-less.. Can you even begin to understand how weird that feels?? Dave has finally got the chance to take mine to the hero's at the saw mill who he thinks can fix and revive even a dead computer.. right now I am praying he is right and fearing that he will be wrong.. I have my eye on one that a friend has to sell.. It won't be brand new but new is out of the question right now.. I am writing this blog on Emily's laptop.. My daughter loves me.. she knows I'll be nuts without my writing.. she has loaned me her own personal computer for a few days..

I have always thought I wanted one of these tiny weird computers .. Now I am not so sure...They are WEIRD!!! They are tiny and everything is glued together.. I can't turn the keyboard to suit my weird taste..or tilt the monitor at some weird angle... The keyboard only has numbers on the top...Yesterday I was scared of it .. I know that is weird but It looks and acts different...I wasn't about to try that little touching box thing.. They hooked me up with a tiny teeny mouse.. That too is weird..but I have almost figured it out.. today I have managed to read my mail and write this blog.. I was scared because all of my widgets and buttons for the different blogs are on my computer and may never be recovered from it.. Even all of my carefully scanned pictures are most likely gone.. How was I going to do a Lensday Post with no Photo's?? Emily had mentioned that she had a lot of pictures on her laptop...hmmmm.. Thanks Em.. I borrowed a few pictures...and made me a folder that I filled with some widgets and buttons and stuff... I guess this tiny little thing isn't so weird after all..

Have a great day!!

Three Things for Thursday

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him." ~ Buddha

“Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head.” ~ Mark Twain

"Every child is a thought in the mind of God, and our task is to recognize this thought and help it toward completion." ~ Eberhard Arnold

1-} ~ 17 words to describe the world as you view it..
these are a lot harder to write than you may think.. how much can a person say with only 17 words?? how do you think I did?? Thankfully the title doesn't count in this one and it can be used as a great starting point.. or as a hint to the nature of the poem.. I have done a lot of the tiny word count poems.. they are a challenge for sure... Maybe you have a word you would like to see me work with? if so send it to me.. I can't promise anything but I will give it a shot.. I am always open to new writing ideas...

Then There Were None

swirling ~ twirling
faster ~ faster
time promenades
look listen learn
beggars ~ thieves
trust YOURSELF
humanity
instinct or extinct?

2-}~ a tanka..
~ Grandma Morris used to talk about the Old Maids and Wallflowers. I always had them pegged as the ugly girls with little or no hope of finding a husband.. The urban dictionary describes the term wallflower as ~
a person who is shy and at a glance uninteresting... a loner who is able, by their invisible nature, to hear many delightful and wicked secrets.. It is almost enough to make me become a wallflower.. a wallflower is also a beautiful flower native to Southern Europe.. It gives off a rich and heady scent.. often used in perfumes and body lotions.. The plant does have a natural tendency to separate itself from other plants in the garden often sprouting in cracks and crevices...this may have been what led people who fade into the background to be know as wallflowers... Of course while Talking to my oldest sister, Trudy last week-end it came out that Grandma herself was 24 when she married my Grandfather..I had to giggle a little bit.. secretly to myself.... Grandma was her self an old maid by the standards set in those days..and she was a schoolmarm too.. Not that I would have ever told her that.. She would have switched my behind and then put me on the steps forever...This poem was written from the one word ~ Tanka~ prompt of wallflowers... let me know what you think..

3-}~ On to round Two!~
a couple of weeks ago I entered a poetry contest.. I half read the instructions and though I thought I understood them I must have been a little off that day.. I didn't choose just one color.. I could even swear it said you could choose more than one color.. I chose a rainbow almost.. When I read the judges comments I was certain it would say ~ Bah Hah you suck!~ But instead I was tickled to find that it said " welcome to round two" ... there are rounds?? How did I miss the fact that there are rounds?? I was in the top thirty five to have entered.. I wasn't gold or silver or even bronze in the first round but I get to go to the second round.. No pre-writes allowed in any round so that means you have to write something almost on the spot.. I think we have 13 days to write this one.. but here is the kicker.. this round has to be about a person.. Yep they have a list and you have to choose a name from the list..and write a poem about that person.. I have looked the list over.. I liked several names but one has stuck in my mind.. ~ Weston~ I never knew a Weston but there is a ghost story of a Weston here in town.. He was a Black share cropper and he had a mule.. We'll see... Bobby is also on the list.. I could do something with that name I'm sure.. Bobby and I go way back.. there are names there that I have never seen before.. odd names and unique names too... it also says you can choose two names and do twins.. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing twins.. we'll see.. I'm still amazed that it is rounds and that I made it to the second round.. the following is my poem from round one!

Spilled Colors

a palette filled with colors
lavender and green

shades and blendings
both shadows and sheens

lemon and rosy red
gold dust and ice blue

so many colors
almost every hue

sadness and tears
giggles and grins

fat ones and skinny ones
and fat ones that thin

different colors for happy
for sadness and strife

a palette of spilled colors
in this painting called life

Just a Little something....

"He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it."

"I don't believe it. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it."

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."
all by ~ Douglas Adams

Wow~ Now how did I let Tuesday sneak up on me? Actually I did know it was Tuesday.. I had even planned a real good trick on my what is it post... Then my computer decided to be an arrogant and aggravating so and so whatever and hasn't been behaving very well today.. It decided that the camera I normally use was incompatible.. Me and my best friend Deb sat here and messed with it all day.. Of course we had to stop trying to eat and talk and laugh and look at the chickens and walk her poodle.. Dave and I are debating taking all the money we would normally spend on the kids at Christmas and buy us a new one.... Dave even has a grand scheme of having one Built to our own specifications just as if we were rich folks.. I can almost hear the children laughing even as I write this.. they know I wouldn't do that to them.. they think I will have their stuff for Christmas just as we always do.... just as we have since they were little kids instead of the grown folks they are now.... I am thinking though that this year we might fool them and go away someplace alone and hide out for the whole week of Christmas on their gift money... holding hands and walking along the shore in the early evening or having warm drinks in some beach front bar... We could.. but I know we won't.. we are good parents and I'll keep fighting this old Computer till it keels over and dies.. We have had terrible luck with computers.. I think we ~ or mostly me~ wear them slap dab out.. the last one before this one, we had so long that the letters were almost gone off the keyboard.. I never took typing in school so I have got to have the letters.. Dave being his wonderful and sweet self put them all back for me with a marker.. We use them all up before we are done with them.. The first one we bought from an auction.. old and well used.. the next one we bought new then the fan died and we had that fixed.. Later the mother board croaked and we used a spare that came from a dumpster for almost a year then bought this one... I still have the spare just in case.... This one came from a pawn shop... they said new but I don't think it was brand new.. Maybe almost new..This is our third Computer in 15 years.. Is that good or bad?

Lately we seem to be having bad luck all around.. the computer is an on going thing...a leak in the roof... the septic tank say it's on strike too.. I couldn't be a good worker and suit the Indians.. and I haven't found a new job... Maybe if my husband beat me enough.. At least that's what my ex boss says is the problem.. I wonder if it would help.. I'd be almost willing for Dave to spank me and see.. and if that doesn't help then we'll move on and know it's a lost cause..
Someone once told me that you could make money blogging... I think I have earned 11 cents for advertisements.. Maybe I'm doing it wrong... Maybe I am trying to hard to do things my way!

But today was a good day even though I didn't get some things done.. Dave, Deb and I had a wonderful lunch of spaghetti and a great ~ almost pizza/ more than bread~ that I found the recipe for this morning while doing my drops.. The dough was made in the bread machine.. a regular pizza dough except I used half wheat flour.. pressed into a pan and brush with olive oil then smothered and covered with very thinly sliced tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms... On top of all that was a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese and then some mixed grated cheese left over form this week ends Taco's.. I will never find that sight again and Deb took the printed recipe home with her.. But Lord It was delicious... I'm even sure it has a name but I don't know it.. Hopefully they dropped on me and I'll see them again tomorrow....

I have started another class on Allpoetry... this one is an acrostics class... I actually like writing acrostics..and so far..~ Knocking on wood~.. I am doing great in this class... I swore I wasn't taking any more because of the time involved but I couldn't stay away.. Our last class was on writing what is called shadow acrostics.. I wrote one and then decided to write another.. I couldn't decide which to turn in so I turned in both.. I know!! I was being weird and it wasn't even Wednesday... I am sharing both of them with you tonight.. Just a little something since I cheated you out of your chance to guess tonight.. I hope you enjoy them.. I hope your Tuesday was great! Have a great night!

Three for you today.. it's Thursday!

"Don't marry a man to reform him - that's what reform schools are for."

"Don't keep a man guessing too long, he's sure to find the answer somewhere else."

"Every man I meet wants to protect me. I can't figure out what from."

"His mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork."

"It's not the men in your life that matters, it's the life in your men."

"Save a boyfriend for a rainy day, and another, in case it doesn't rain."

"When women go wrong, men go right after them."
All from Mae West, 1893 - 1980

1~) I missed Mae's birthday on August 17th.. I guess I was battling the modem on that day..
No one knows for sure what year she was born since her stage name has different dates depending on what role she was playing at the time.. She was the highest paid woman in the world in 1935.. earning almost $481,000.. She was a very talented actress and writer.. she wrote or co-wrote almost all of her roles. Once writing a play called "SEX" for which she was arrested...she could have paid a fine and avoided jail but thinking it might be an adventure she chose jail.... she was racy and considered to be a bit too naughty for main stream back then. She was nothing like most women and she made sure everyone knew it... She made remarks both on stage and in life that had hidden sexual tones and double meanings.. She neither smoked nor drank... she believed in equality between men and women and is considered to be both an entertainment legend and an American legend. She earned a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.. Her star is located at 1560 Vine Street.

2~) An Acrostic Poem.

Life

Little moments; big ideas; grand schemes and flops!
Intimacies shared; secrets held; pennies saved in a box.
Friends laughing; enemies kept close; bills; brooms and Mops.
Every breath a different thing; a rose; a bird; or an Ox!

3~) a riddle-
Big as a biscuit, deep as a cup, even a river can’t fill it up. What is it?

I hoped and hoped for rain today.. Thunder and lightening circled around and around overhead covering the sky with a blanket of blackness... even now I can hear a distant rumble as the clouds roll away from us.. No rain so far for my garden.. I guess I'll water a little bit tomorrow morning..My newly planyed peas and beans are growing pretty fast.. we are hoping for one more late crop of veggies this year.. I still have empty jars..

I am so glad to have a modem that hasn't dropped off line even once today..I have caught up on my e-mails.. I was so happy I even read some of the ones that are always showing up in my spam folder.. I farmed a little in Farmville and worked at the factory in Yoville.. and played mafia wars on both facebook and myspace.. I wrote some poems and worked on a poetry class on Allpoetry.com.. I said I wasn't taking any more but I am fond of acrostic poems.. I shared one with you tonight.. It is for that class.. don't be fooled though.. those classes are hard.

I won 16th place in the poetry contests that I talked about a week or so ago.. the one where I submitted the poem called My Song... I was kinda sad till I realized that there was a gazillion entries... for the number of entries.. (thousands actually) 16th place was pretty good.. especially since I had never ever heard of that kind of poem.. ( a solfege) and wrote mine just off the top of my head.. Sometimes that's the best way to write..

Looking at the riddle I just realized that the answer may be hard for some of you modern folks.. the answer is actually rarely used any more and may be a complete mystery to many young people.. Maybe someone will be old enough to know what it is though.. Please leave me a comment if you know and even if you don't have a clue.. I'll be sure to let you know the answer tomorrow! Have a wonderful day!

It's Thursday! I have Three things for you!

"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth."
~ Buddha

"Speak the truth, do not yield to anger; give, if thou art asked for little; by these three steps thou wilt go near the gods." ~ Confucius

"One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor. " ~ George Carlin

Wow!? Is it Thursday already? I guess it really is... I will be sharing with you three quick things today.. Having either quit or was fired.. I know, I should know, but either way it doesn't matter... from My job over a week ago I have been a very busy woman.. So tonight will be quick for a Thursday.. But I did do two posts on Tuesday so maybe Y'all will forgive me??? How about if I say Please?!

1:) ~ I am thankful to be an American! ~ I am Thankful to be an American for a great number of reasons but really really thankful after the escapade with my job... In many foreign countries
women are considered second class or maybe even no class citizens.. They are not allowed to have an opinion unless it of course either is or enhances the opinion of their husband.. Husbands and/or his brother, father, or any other piddling male relative may correct the families women if he thinks she needs it.. I will tell you that it was believed by my employer that I needed correcting and undoubtedly he had never reckoned with a red necked good old American woman before.. He kept telling me I was JUST a WOMAN.. and JUST an EMPLOYEE.. In between that and " IS NOT FOR YOU TO SPEAK WOMAN IS FOR YOU ONLY TO LISTEN!!!!" I couldn't squeeze in any good words at all.. Finally he said that Alla was slamming Heavens Gate in my ugly face and My Husband would get NO VIRGINS.. all because he said a room had no towels the night before and I said that they did.. because I had personally carried the guy towels just before I left the Hotel.. He was like a wild man.. ran at me and everything like a bull charging a red rag!..Then we waved his hand at me and said either I listen to man or I leave his property.... I was almost off of his property when he started telling the ladies that worked with me that I was a bad seed.. a bad influence on his wife and his families women.. Y'all do know I turned around and went back for round two? Yes! I thank God that I was born in America where we teach our girls that we too are important and where our husbands don't depend on our good deeds and our good wifely behavior to earn them virgins.. I am grateful for a good husband who allows me to have an opinion and who even lets me think!!! I never realized just how bad it is for many women in different parts of the world and even when they come here.. they are still bound by their own cultures.. I ask that each of you join me in Prayer for those women...

3:) A fun Picture and an acrostic poem!

Fishing ~ She said/ He said!

Fling it over that way baby!
I said that way.. over there!
Shoot! you didn't fling it where I said!
How do you know there aren't fish there..
I saw one jump just a minute ago!
Never listen to me.. I'm just a Woman!
Good thing I didn't want fish!

First and Last time I bring her with me!
I know how to fish!!!
She did NOT see a fish Jump!
How does she know where the fish are?
I always fish here..
Now I have an EXPERT along!
Good thing I didn't want to catch any fish!
