Three for Thursday!

"A man's true wealth is the good he does in the world. Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror. But you are eternity and you are the mirror."
~Kahlil Gibran

"What a holler would ensue if people had to pay the minister as much to marry them as they have to pay a lawyer to get them a divorce." ~ Claire Trevor

"Imagination is like a lofty building reared to meet the sky; fancy is a balloon that soars at the wind's will." ~ Frank Gelett Burgess

1:)~ Just rambling! ~~ Today has been a pretty ordinary day.. I slept till almost 1:30pm...That part wasn't ordinary.. I'm usually up early.. I did wake up for a few minutes and looking at Dave there sleeping soundly.. I decided to just stay there and sleep along with him.. His work schedule means that I write and sleep while he works and he sleeps while I cook.. clean.. and compute.. we did all the normal daily things we do.. Most of our daily joint work revolves around out animals.. feeding takes a while longer when everyone has water frozen in their drinking containers.. the pig squealed and squealed this morning.. I had already went back for an apple and then for some bread with peanut butter and scratched her butt before I realized her water was frozen... as soon as we fixed that she went about munching on her red apple.. we had a few eggs this morning that were cracked open.. frozen.. but we also had a few that were not frozen and the chickens were fine.. when I checked on them all just before dark they were all roosting quietly.. they will be up and crowing at around 4am.. I guess they go to sleep early to get an early start... The weather channels are calling for snow tonight.. we never get snow.. well actually there have been a few snows here in my lifetime.. someone asked me if I had been to the store.. I just laughed at them.. in the southeast if there is even a rumor of snow the grocery store fills up and all the milk and bread vanishes... and people know we never get snow.. and even if a few flakes were to fall during the night it will melt just as soon as the sun rises.. oh well.. I don't have bread but I have a bread machine.. I have a well stocked pantry and a freezer as well.. I personally would like to see a little snow... I did check to be sure that my camp stove and the fuel were in the laundry room.... just in case... after all it never hurts to be prepared! If it does indeed snow... maybe I'll have a snowman party like I did when Cooper and Emily were small... It was just me and the two of them who lived here then and they were itching to get outside and catch a cold.. the snow was about an inch deep.. just a dusting at best.. I really think it took all we could roll up to make the three balls we needed.. he was a sad snowman for sure but they loved him... They both had a fit the next morning when all that was left of him was Anthony's old hat.. Emily's scarf.. some wet charcoal .. and a wilted carrot.. Maybe instead of a snowman party I'll just stay inside where it is warm.... after all it will be just another ordinary day! Have a wonderful night.. stay safe and warm where ever you are..

2:) A Pantoum ~
3:) ~ a Haiku~

Poems.... I wrote this first poem for a contest and was delighted to discover that is a featured Poem on PoetrySoup this week.. folks always want to know what I get paid to be featured.. I get paid nothing.. but I still love to be a featured poet.. in fact I have been featured two week in a row.. the second poem was featured last week and has just passed into the final round in the contest it was entered into.. the contests began with almost a thousand entries.. the final round has narrowed the field to 263... I know I am still a needle in a haystack but at least I made it this far! YAY ME!!! Winning this prize would mean a small sum of money.. maybe enough to buy me some new pens and notebooks! I think you may have read these two poems before but maybe you will enjoy them a second time around..

~Omega~

In a place of standing stones
a mighty beast awakens
Ivory ribcage aglow
fire raging in his belly
a mighty beast awakens
scaled wings flutter
fire rages in his belly
he is Omega the last of his kind
scaled wings flutter
Ivory ribcage aglow
He is omega the last of his kind
In a place of standing stones.

Unconscious Mutterings.. On Sunday Afternoon!

"My worst fear is that I'll end up living in some run-down duplex on Wilshire wearing pants hiked up to my nipples and muttering under my breath."
~ Richard Dreyfuss

“And the muttering grew to a grumbling; / And the grumbling grew to a mighty rumbling;/ And out of the houses the rats came tumbling.” ~ Robert Browning

"My nerves are still frazzled. I can't talk without stuttering, muttering and mumbling."
~Mark Low

Unconscious Mutterings

Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.

That's an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this exercise, we're just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I'll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind.

Three Things for Thursday

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him." ~ Buddha

“Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head.” ~ Mark Twain

"Every child is a thought in the mind of God, and our task is to recognize this thought and help it toward completion." ~ Eberhard Arnold

1-} ~ 17 words to describe the world as you view it..
these are a lot harder to write than you may think.. how much can a person say with only 17 words?? how do you think I did?? Thankfully the title doesn't count in this one and it can be used as a great starting point.. or as a hint to the nature of the poem.. I have done a lot of the tiny word count poems.. they are a challenge for sure... Maybe you have a word you would like to see me work with? if so send it to me.. I can't promise anything but I will give it a shot.. I am always open to new writing ideas...

Then There Were None

swirling ~ twirling
faster ~ faster
time promenades
look listen learn
beggars ~ thieves
trust YOURSELF
humanity
instinct or extinct?

2-}~ a tanka..
~ Grandma Morris used to talk about the Old Maids and Wallflowers. I always had them pegged as the ugly girls with little or no hope of finding a husband.. The urban dictionary describes the term wallflower as ~
a person who is shy and at a glance uninteresting... a loner who is able, by their invisible nature, to hear many delightful and wicked secrets.. It is almost enough to make me become a wallflower.. a wallflower is also a beautiful flower native to Southern Europe.. It gives off a rich and heady scent.. often used in perfumes and body lotions.. The plant does have a natural tendency to separate itself from other plants in the garden often sprouting in cracks and crevices...this may have been what led people who fade into the background to be know as wallflowers... Of course while Talking to my oldest sister, Trudy last week-end it came out that Grandma herself was 24 when she married my Grandfather..I had to giggle a little bit.. secretly to myself.... Grandma was her self an old maid by the standards set in those days..and she was a schoolmarm too.. Not that I would have ever told her that.. She would have switched my behind and then put me on the steps forever...This poem was written from the one word ~ Tanka~ prompt of wallflowers... let me know what you think..

Wallflowers

3-}~ On to round Two!~
a couple of weeks ago I entered a poetry contest.. I half read the instructions and though I thought I understood them I must have been a little off that day.. I didn't choose just one color.. I could even swear it said you could choose more than one color.. I chose a rainbow almost.. When I read the judges comments I was certain it would say ~ Bah Hah you suck!~ But instead I was tickled to find that it said " welcome to round two" ... there are rounds?? How did I miss the fact that there are rounds?? I was in the top thirty five to have entered.. I wasn't gold or silver or even bronze in the first round but I get to go to the second round.. No pre-writes allowed in any round so that means you have to write something almost on the spot.. I think we have 13 days to write this one.. but here is the kicker.. this round has to be about a person.. Yep they have a list and you have to choose a name from the list..and write a poem about that person.. I have looked the list over.. I liked several names but one has stuck in my mind.. ~ Weston~ I never knew a Weston but there is a ghost story of a Weston here in town.. He was a Black share cropper and he had a mule.. We'll see... Bobby is also on the list.. I could do something with that name I'm sure.. Bobby and I go way back.. there are names there that I have never seen before.. odd names and unique names too... it also says you can choose two names and do twins.. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing twins.. we'll see.. I'm still amazed that it is rounds and that I made it to the second round.. the following is my poem from round one!

Spilled Colors

a palette filled with colors
lavender and green

shades and blendings
both shadows and sheens

lemon and rosy red
gold dust and ice blue

so many colors
almost every hue

sadness and tears
giggles and grins

fat ones and skinny ones
and fat ones that thin

different colors for happy
for sadness and strife

a palette of spilled colors
in this painting called life

Three things for Thursday!

"Poetry is an orphan of silence. The words never quite equal the experience behind them."
~ Charles Simic

"Sixty years ago I knew everything; now I know nothing; education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance." ~ Will Durant

"By all means marry.. if you get a good wife.. you will become happy.. if you get a bad one you will become a philosopher!" ~ Socrates

Today has been busy; busy; busy.. we did our regular every single day things like finding eggs and feeding chickens and birds and dogs.. we made some pictures to use for What is it Tuesdays and some just because I have a wonderfully willing man.. How many men do you know that will catch and hold a chicken because you want a picture of it.. and it keeps walking away from you and the camera?.. Remember that these boogers have spurs and they aren't all that keen on being caught or held.. We did laundry.. We also cleaned house.. Then I cooked a big lunch and was glad when Emily; Luke and Kirstin stopped by and ate a meal with us... Then Dave went away to work ... I sat down to write and to do my drops for entrecard.... That didn't last long since writing and the telephone don't mix.... So I went and made last evening gathering of eggs.... then I pickled 7 dozen quail eggs... ~They are already promised to a fellow that says he'll buy all I pickle.. I think he meant to add... within reason!.. I get at least a dozen quail eggs a day so I could fix him a lot of pickled eggs.. more than he could eat I'll bet.... But oh they are so time consuming to shell.. they are so tiny.. I use vinegar to help me dissolve the shells but they still take a bit of time.. Busy; Busy; Busy!! ~ OK.. I have bored you with my busy day enough.. Now on to the three things for Thursday!

1~) Thursday's Photo Challenge!

Today's theme~"TRANQUIL"
(Quiet, Peaceful, Still, Calm, Serene, Garden, Forest, Beach)
My children and I all Love the Ocean!
Cooper~ Hunting Island~ April 13~ 2003

2-) "TRANQUIL" ~ an acrostic poem..

"TRANQUIL"

Totally peaceful~ a picnic in the park.
Restful~ relaxing~ fishing~ riverside.
Amazing~ building castles~ at oceans edge.
No strife ~ no stress~ cloud watching.
Quiet and calming~ a misty midnight walk.
Untroubled ~ unusual~ under the moss draped oaks.
Idyllic ~ impressive~ stars on a black velvet sky.
Longed for~ nature's music~ lovers hand in hand.

3-) just some thoughts~ the word of the day for the photo sight was tranquil~ (I say that as if you don't already know it..) I think about how busy; busy; busy our lives are these days.. I do remember when life was simple.. when the biggest decision I had to make was rather Reuben and I would steal.. ( let's say borrow instead!) the green box of jello or the red one to take with us to the train tracks for a snack.. we didn't care for jello .. it was slimy and wiggly and jiggly.. but we loved jello powder.. we were kids.. now they have a candy similar to that.. When our whole day revolved around catching frogs and running from Jimmy and playing hopscotch.. Reuben and Martha were both good hoppers.. I could sit for hours and watch Trudy roll her hair and try on make up.. I wasn't allowed to touch it but I liked to watch her make funny faces as she painted herself a face.. Sheron and I pulled all of the seed pods from the wisteria vine and painted them with her water colors.. She decreed that they were magical velvet beans.. We even set up a stand in front of her house and sold them to passers by for a nickel.. Cousin( said Cuddin) Debby and her Husband Cousin Dave bought one from each of us.. Sheron told them they could hang them from their Christmas tree.. I wonder if they did?.. you couldn't do that now without a permit!.. with Sheron.. everything is magical.. she doesn't realize how special she is.. I love her to pieces.. I have a vine.. maybe I'll gather me up a crew of kids and Sheron and paint velvet beans.. Frank told us if we could get close enough to put salt on a birds tail we could catch him.. we spent countless hours with a salt box laying in the bushes waiting for a bird... we salted crickets and centipedes and each other .. but we never got close enough to salt a birds tail... My sister Mary and I were going to become rich by writing a book.. I was going to do the writing and she was going to be the illustrator.. She used to draw the best pictures.. she would draw Paper dolls and coloring pages.. we even set us up a studio one summer in the smoke house... she bargained somehow with Jimmy to set us both up desk from some old boards and a few cement blocks.. we spent that whole summer shut up in the smoke house.. working on our million dollar book.. me writing and her drawing.. us talking about how we would spend our million... Mary mentioned our book today .. I wish I still had it.. I wish she would illustrate my poetry.. I personally think she and I would still make a great team.. Grandma Morris gave me a brownie Hawkeye camera when she got a new one and I made pictures of everyone posing them just so..
I was going to be a writer and a photographer.. and a magic bean painter.... but mostly a writer...
Then we all grew up.... we took on responsibilities.. Mary went to work and quit drawing paper dolls and I eventually quit writing for a long (way too long!) time.. husbands and kids and technology entered our world and changed our lives.. stress became a big part of every day.. we quit eating jello powder.. ( well I still do sometimes make fake strawberry's from it and eat them.) I miss the simpler times.. the tranquility of playing with my siblings in the early evening dusk.. Mama and Daddy talking quietly on the front porch steps.. sitting close together on the top step.. sharing their day and their thoughts and dreams.... and then as soon as we finished singing ain't no boogers out tonight.... Up from the azalea bed jumped Jimmy and the tranquility was over as we ran screaming and hollering all the way back to Daddy and Mama and falling all over each other... filling up the steps as the first stars twinkled in a night sky and the fireflies lit up the flowerbeds where the boogers lived.. and we rested there on that tiny porch on our little white house... peaceful and Untroubled...

Have a great day!
Patsy

Three for Thursday!

"Inspiration is an awakening, a quickening of all man's faculties, and it is manifested in all high artistic achievements." ~ Giacomo Puccini

"Motivation is an external, temporary high that pushes you forward. Inspiration is a sustainable internal glow which pulls you forward." ~Thomas J. Leonard

"I learned ... that inspiration does not come like a bolt, nor is it kinetic, energetic striving, but it comes into us slowly and quietly and all the time, though we must regularly and every day give it a little chance to start flowing, prime it with a little solitude and idleness." ~ Brenda Ueland

~I bet everyone is surprised to see more from me so soon. My computer decided it liked me for an extra hour tonight so here I sit thinking about what would be good to write about on Thursdays.. A lot ob bloggers have a different theme for each night. There are a few for Thursday; but being me and my normally contrary self; I didn't like any of them! Well I like them but they wouldn't stick with me.. or I wouldn't stick with them.. we would simply loose interest and then Thursdays would be a wash till I figured out something else. So tonight begins my very own~ "Three for Thursday!" ~ Thursday night event. Each Thursday I will have three of something on my blog.. It might be pictures of something or maybe someone.. It might be questions with answers.... I could share with you three of my thoughts from that day.. I could find three riddles.... Or Maybe I could write three Rhymes... And Maybe IT could be a combination of three but you'll get three on Thursday.. For as long as I can anyway! We will of course always begin with three quotes...

1- (thought)~

Tonight's quotes are about inspiration. People often ask me where I get my inspiration for a poem or a story. I wish I knew. I have dreamed poems and got up from my bed to write them down. I have felt them tumble through my mind as I drove eighty miles an hour to keep from being late to work. And I have cried for no reason and wrote words that I had no idea were in my heart. I really do wish I knew where some of the things come from.. they just come.. Even the un-invited ones come.. The sad and lonely ones come.. But thankfully the happy hopping silly ones come too! ( like inspiration can actually hop and skip into your work!?)

2- (haiku)~

A Delicacy

Mother's Day!

Hunting Island State Park!

~ though we didn't know it then; those truly were good days!~

So there ya go! Three for Thursday! This week I gave you a good example. I hope you are having a great Day today. Try to be an inspiration to someone today if you can. Enjoy new foods if you get the chance. You never know until you try it. Hold the precious memories of your children close. If you are raising children , please give them good things to remember. Inspire them to become the best that they can be. Allow them to also inspire you ! Laugh often, Love as many as you can! Have a great day!
