Temptation

We only craved a toddy
something frosty in a glass

And then she came in sideways
all eyes were on the lass

We giggled from our corner
she put on quiet a show

She acted like she knew us
though how we didn't know

She waved and yelled a hello cheer
across the room she ran

She fell upon my sidekick
and grabbed her by the hand

" I disappointed Mama"
she whispered through the tears

I thought about my own Mom
now getting on in years

Her story wasn't new to us
we had heard it all before

In fact sometimes was our tale too
a time or three or more

She said "God brought me to you
can you help me find the way?"

"I've been straight a long long time
until I failed today."

We promised her that life is hard
and filled with lows and highs

Disappointment finds us each in turn
the bold.. the meek.. the wise..

We told the lass to raise her head
forgive herself and smile

Temptation lures us each at times
it surely can beguile

She begged us not to hate her
before we parted ways

I know my thoughts will dwell with her
for days and weeks and days

We only craved a toddy
something frosty in a glass

And then she came in sideways
Heartbroken little lass....

3 Word Wednesday-

janky- conniption- scooched

"Daddy"

"God I hate my janky life" she wailed at the littlest ones.. Realizing she was dead center of one of her conniption fits I had scooched around the corner before she caught sight of me.. Leaning heavily against the side of the house I hoped she would hurry and finish her tirade.. Sammy was singing happy birthday in his three year old voice and Sarah Lee was squealing and throwing green beans across the kitchen from her seat in the old high chair.. I didn't see Benny and Mary Ann but I knew they were in there.. eating peanut butter on day old bread and wishing Daddy had carried us away with him...

At least I hoped they still believed in Daddy.. Being the oldest.. at thirteen.. I had quit believing in Daddy about the same time I quit believing in Santa and the tooth fairy.. Neither one of them had ever bought me a gift or slipped a dime under my pillow.. I didn't know much about who my Daddy was.. or any of the other Daddies either for that matter.. but I liked to pretend that one day he would find out about me and come riding up in a red mustang and call out.. "Janet.. you come on now.. it's time for you to come on home with me" ..
He would pick up the baby and cuddle her close as he and I herded the others towards the bright red car.. Yea.. the way I had it figured Daddy might show up any time now.. I reckoned that I better get on in there and get the children tended to.. I hadn't heard her hollering for at least five minutes and she was sure to be getting ready to go out on what she liked to call a date... I had homework for two classes and it would be bed time for the littlest ones soon .. I was already planning on telling them a wonderful new story about Daddy...

I Stole Some Time to Twist Some Words..

"All that we see and seem is but a dream within a dream."

"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality."

"I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat."
All from Edgar Allan Poe

who was born on this day in in 1809... Both of His parents had died before his second Birthday and he was taken in by John Allan.. who raised him partly in Richmond Virginia and partly in England.. He was never adopted.. but took Allan as his middle name. He briefly attended the University of Virginia where he was expelled for not paying gambling debts... He entered the US Army using an assumed name and later entered West Point.. he was dishonorably discharged after serving less than a year .. for dereliction of duty.. He began his literary career in the 1830s, serving as editor for several magazines.. after the death of his wife he spiralled into depression and drunkenness... though He wrote some great poetry.. including "The Raven".. he is best known as "The Father" of detective stories.

- ABC Wednesday Challenge- Round 8

- albatross feeding in the rain at Lake Edgar Brown in Barnwell...
A is for -albatross and awed..

Awed

avaricious acrobats
taking advantage
of abundant appetizers-

around and around
through the air
and then an awesome dive-

again and again
all afternoon
their attitude abounds-

apparently taking aim
on an especially tasty tidbit
then attacking from above-

absolutely UN-afraid of the alligator
asleep in the rock alley ashore
they rest on the water-

air to waters surface
time after time
until all appetite is alleviated-

abiding silently I smile
as the ancient assoluta of the albatross
holds the great white herons in absolute awe...

from a word bank found at Allpoetry.com... the 32 words that I had to use were...

Concoction. Whisper. Magenta. Scent. Sublime. Hearth. Shore. Wings. Twist.
Adoration. Cliff. Envelop. Lime. Pearl. Horizon. Vanilla. Glass. Nonchalant. Ghost.
Appease. Cocktail. Vestibule. Frame. Soul. Lips. Lace. Memory. Trellis. Rose. Garden.
Moon. Arcane.

Reflection

memory's sweet magenta whisper
elusive-

oh were there some vanilla cocktail
concoction-

a ghost of scent haunts the vestibule
of my dreams-

lace in the garden- a rose trellis-
and lips-

a hearth near the shore- star lights
across a velvet sky-

sublime cliffs behind and an arcane moon
on the horizon-

the nonchalant tilt of the glass-
a twist of lime to appease my soul-

a flutter of pearl wings- awakening
as adoration envelops my spirit-

white coats smiling- bright lights- and the pain
of oblivion-

with a smile from the lady in the frame I promise-
"someday- we will remember "

We have had a rare couple of days with snow and Ice.. mostly ice in my own yard..
Dave convinced me to go for a ride with him.. I held on white knuckled as he slipped and slid along the roads..
.. Staying in the ruts was the only way to stay on the road.. we saw a deputy slide right into the ditch..

~ The road less travelled...

- One of my young pine trees..

~ Grandma's old rose bush encased in ice..

~ a horse in a coat..
~ I love all the patterns and designs the ice makes on everyday items such as these posts..
Though it is still very cold.. it did warm up enough today to melt all of the ice and what little snow there was.. thanks for stopping by my blog today.. I welcome both comments and followers.. Have a wonderful day!

Thursday.. Dark Clouds Hovered and Threatened.. But No Rain... Three Things for Thursday!

"I fell in love, not deep, but I fell several times and then fell out."

"Life is like an onion: you peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep." Sandburg

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."

~ all by Carl Sandburg... who was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on January 6, 1878.. Carl Sandburg was an American writer and editor.. he was best known for his poetry... He won three Pulitzer Prizes.. two for his poetry and the third for a biography of Abraham Lincoln.. he also wrote a children's book of tales known as "Rootabaga Stories".. I have searched old book shops.. thrift stores.. and antique stores high and low hoping to find a copy of it for myself.. I have read some of the stories on-line and believe it or not... my favorite story is about seven rusty rats... and so

#1- Happy Birthday Carl Sandburg!

#3~ Alphabe-Thursday - The Letter M-

M is for Music~ a while back I was sent the word music by someone who wanted me to write a poem.. when someone sends me a word I think on it a little then I write a poem.. Every time it is different and sometimes I will like a list of words or a single word so much that I will write more than one thing from it... I love music..

Time To Dance- (music!)

Melodies pulsing through my soul
Undulating symphony of rock and roll
Strumming rhythms.. electric heat
Instrumental with a jazzy beat
Chords and lyrics.. Microphones
~~Bring delicious wiggles to my bones.

M is also for Mom- I am lucky enough to have once seen my Mom dance... with her twin brother..he was a smooth dancer.. he knew all the fancy steps.. at least that's what he once told me... I miss him tonight.. I am pretty sure that both him and my Mom love Music too.. ... That's my Mom in the Middle.. the four of us are half of her eight children... most of us don't jitterbug any more.. at least not when anyone is watching.. but we do tap our toes when we hear music...

Y is for... Yard Art
and for...

The Yeoman's Tale....
The year was still young when you yielded.... yellow-bellied yet yapping.. you yodeled
Yankee-doodle.. yanking your own yarn.. smoking yarrow by the yard... yawning?.. yea.. yearning yet yelling.. yelping yesterdays yokes here and yonder.. till your youth yellowed.. then with a yeasty yell you yachted...
