 #2- & #3-  Diamante Poems- I have been taking another class at Allpoetry.com...  I have always liked what some people call small word poems or small word count poems.. that means writing a poem with only a few words.. Haiku .. American Sentence Poems and Hay(NA)Ku are all examples of that.. so are these Diamante Poems from my latest class...  don't let these fool you.. they are much harder than they appear..  they can be written as synonyms.. or as antonyms..  I will share one of each using the assigned word night.. enjoy!

Magpie Tales- #69

The Next Step- ( a haibun)

next step altered
tiny shell missing fondly

one misstep and I knew I'd be eating sandy spam on wheat and lemon cookies...
Lila was telling tales of rice plantations and slavery... pirates and skeletons all jumble together..
I was pondering wee spiraled cones..

Oh what a long and busy day.. I had a house full of nearly teens.. three girls and one boy.. they all wanted to play Sims at once and we all know that won't work.. they played rock band once or twice but this one would all but squeal over the others choice of song.. finally I said .. "I have had enough...." .. well.. actually I didn't say that.. but  I said some other stuff.. and ordered them to the dining table to write me a story... they draw a scrap of paper with a prompt on it.. I have to have at least five sentences... and when everyone is through they stand one at the time and tell us their story..  nothing too hard.. but I do want an illustration of some kind.. ok so I'm mean..  we are learning reading and writing skills.. spelling and art... they also help cook.. and toss corn at critters....  play hide the penny... and swim..
I gotta tell you.. kids think deep.. they claim I am making them keep a journal cause I'm mean and making them learn all summer.. the truth is that I do hope they learn something this summer..  they are really talented and I want them to know that..  but every time they present their stories I learn from them.. and that is worth every second of getting up early and listening to ... "she looked at me... she touched my phone.... she texted about me to Em"... all day.. I also made and canned 4 quarts and 7 pints of salsa and 20 quarts of squash today...  time now to rest and cool off..   Thanks for stopping by to read a few of my words today.. I welcome both comments and followers... I hope you have a remarkable day..

A Refreshing Day!

"A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people. " ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

"A new word is like a fresh seed sown on the ground of the discussion." ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein

"A Poem does not grow by jerks. As trees in Spring produce a new ring of tissue, so does every poet put forth a fresh outlay of stuff at the same season." ~ Wilfred Owen

Moody Monday offers us a challenge each week.. the photo challenge of today is Fresh....

Fresh~ • newly made or obtained • new; not previously known, met with, etc.; novel • pure, cool, or refreshing • not faded, worn, obliterated, etc.

~ Fresh vegetables..

Fresh Fruits~

~ Farm fresh eggs.. from our own hens..
fresh flowers priced to buy~
~ The freshest flowers growing right outside my door.. My favorite flower.. bought for me By My Beloved Dave..
a new life.. pure and unspoiled.. Fresh and sweet!

~ I have got to tell you that I really enjoyed doing the research for today's post.. It is amazing how quickly a produce manager can get a fresh mouth when he sees someone with a camera in his department.. Never fear.. he didn't say anything to me personally but he appeared to have a fresh burst of energy as he hurried to get the store manager and then as I admired their fresh flowers.. the floral manager as well.. they followed me around the store as I shopped for animal feed and fresh food for my family.. Just as I was about to leave the store.. I saw them all huddled at the end of an aisle.. all eyes trained on me.. I think I scared them.. finally the store manager asked me if it was true that I had a camera in their store.. I thought about telling them I was a mystery shopper or something like that but before I could come up with a fresh lie.. the manager made up his mind that I was a spy.. he told the others to head on back to their work.. that if I was making pictures of their stuff then it was because they were the best store in town.. Poor Dave was standing away from me as if we were not together or I would have pulled my camera back out of my purse and made a fresh batch of pictures and maybe even some of them standing there in their silly little huddle.. Needless to say I left there feeling refreshed.. Have a wonderful day!!

Write a What?? What?? What??

"Exhilaration is that feeling you get just after a great idea hits you, and just before you realize what's wrong with it."

"No iron can pierce the heart with such force as a period put just at the right place."
~ Isaac Babel

I think you will agree that these forms of acrostic poems might make you stop and say ..
"write a WHAT!"
That was my first thought when I glanced at the assignment for my on-line poetry writing class at Allpoetry.com..
they were actually very easy to write and I'll bet that most of you could even write your own..
each one has a hidden word or message in them.
The first one.. a mesostich~ has a word hidden right down the middle.. I chose my own name and then wrote the poem to fit what I feel about my own name..
The second one was even easier.. known as a Telestich~ it has a message or a word along the ending letters of each line.. for this one I used the word spider as I sat and gazed at one out the window.. I am quiet fond of spiders.. especially the giant green garden spiders that share the spaces beneath the trees here with us.. I do in fact have a spider tattoo on my shoulder..
The final form for this assignment was called a Cross acrostic.. it has a message or word spread across the poem.. the first letter of the first line.. the second letter on the second line and so on and so on and so on.. I have a saying.. I don't get angry.. I get even.. and this third acrostic talks about the pleasure we can get from plotting a new evenness!
I hope you enjoy the short poems for tonight and I hope today was a good day for you..
I know I have been missing a lot lately.. I continue to plan for Emily's upcoming wedding..
Have a great Night!

Guardian Angels

"Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life."
~ Sophia Loren

"I believe in a lively disrespect for most forms of authority."
~ Rita Mae Brown

"Adventure is worthwhile in itself."~ Amelia Earhart, 1897 - 1937

"Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else."
~ Judy Garland, 1922 - 1969

Ever since I was very young I have always thought that we all have Guardian Angels who watch over us. There is even a beautiful painting of an angel watching over two children as the follow a frightening path. The children appear to be in some danger as the beautiful female angel hovers behind silently guiding them to safety. I would dare to bet you that My own angel is not a beautiful young female.

Many people have asked the question "Are angels men or women?" I don't know that they would be either as we humans know gender to be. Whenever angels have appeared visibly to men, as recorded in the Bible, they have appeared in the physical form of men. The angels who met with Abraham came as strangers across the dusty fields and actually sat down and ate with him. (Gen. 18:8) Later, when the angels appeared to the inhabitants of Sodom, they were in such perfect manlike shape that the Sodomites were attempting to take these ‘men’ for homosexual purposes. The writer of the Bible's Book of Hebrews suggests that humans at times, ‘have entertained angels unawares’ (Heb. 13:2).

I like to think that each of us have our own Angel. I also think that they are able to guide us in some ways and protect us in many ways. I also believe that they may not interfere in the ability to make both bad and good choices for our lives that God gives us as free will. I feel as though I should often apologize to my Guardian. I have lived a very colorful life. I'm not saying that I go around doing wicked things or committing sins here, there and everywhere but I will admit to my share of youthful wrongdoing. I also admit that I was way older than youthful before I ever did anything remotely sinful. Finding yourself single and free in your thirties will do that to you sometimes. I can only say that at thirty the desire to sow a few wild oats thankfully doesn't last nearly as long as it might have if I had climbed fools hill in my teens.

I seem to be a magnet for dramatic events. Just for example, a few years ago while I was attempting to fly with Mason to New Mexico the security level went to red alert.I was searched over and over. Each time they searched me they took my Bra and one flip flop! Not a whole pair or not a left one time and a right the next. They took the left every time so that By the time we got to New Mexico I was bra-less and walking tall and proud in the cheapest pair of Flip Flops the Chicago Airport had. Paying twenty six dollars for a pair of flip flops is another sin! I would have worn a mix matched pair if I had been able to. I am cheap! I hated having to buy those expensive shoes. Flying always brings challenges to my life. It's like I have bad flying karma. Flights are canceled and delayed when I am in an airport. My oldest son won't admit it but I am sure that is why he never asks me to pick him up from or take him to the airport. He is afraid the karma might go with him!

I also have a very colorful array of friends. I have often been seen taking cigarettes to a young person who has found himself on the wrong side of the law and called "Miss Patsy" collect and asked for seven pairs of underwear and some shower shoes to be brought to them at the county jail. I have went with single Mothers with a teen-age daughters to get the girls from boyfriends homes in the wee hours. I have went with wives at their wits end to fetch husbands with bellies filled with peanuts, pretzels and alcohol from some of the worse bars you can imagine. It seems that if someone has drama in their life; somehow; whoever they are; they will become a part of my life. I will welcome them and their drama with open arms.

I have made it through some very tough times and have traveled a few dangerous paths with out harm. I have always thought that those safe passages were thanks to my Guardian Angel. I have never for one second thought that my Guardian was a beautiful blond princess with wings. I would much rather bet on him being a very daring and dramatically dark haired young man. A sissified, blond, girl would never be able to keep up with me. I would have left her in the red clay dust as I flew down a railroad hill when I was just four years old. I am sure he has a wonderful sense of humor and a great navigational memory to guide him and myself back to the straight and narrow over and over again as I seem to leap from the path so easily seen by everyone but me! Thankfully life has for a time settled down around me and I am sure my guardian has enjoyed the few weeks of rest. I can almost imagine him with his feet propped up and his eyes closed; but his alarms set for our next exciting adventure! I will be sure not to disappoint him.

Today try to behave and let your guardian rest and put his feet up for a few minutes. Don't behave long enough for him to get fat but every once in a great while just join me in giving our angels a break! Have a great day!
Patsy

Guardian

Following me
to the places
I have gone
can't have been easy
for you.

Wanting to hold
me back; afraid
to let me~ be me,
has been a trial
you have endured well.

Today I sit quietly
thinking of the tribulations
I have brought into
your existence
and mine.

I thank you
Guardian
for allowing me
to grow in my own way
becoming me~ day by day by day.

Holding me safe
as danger lurked near.
Foolishness races
knowing no fear.
The unknown a friend.

You know I can't promise
to behave for it would be untrue.
I will instead promise to try
to recall that you are with me.
close behind~ Protecting.

I will try not
to ever again
show you anything
that causes you
to cover your angelic eyes!

Poetic Wednesday!

"I write for the same reason I breathe ~ because if I didn't, I would die." ~ Isaac Asimov

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today's poems are all written from different types of prompts that have been sent to me. You will notice that each is different in form than the others. I haven't had much time to write this week. I have been busy with Everyone getting ready for my Dear Husband's Birthday. Yes he's old. Or at least the children say we are. But I have surely missed the time I normally spend writing. Next week I'll have to try and catch up! I hope you enjoy the poems today. Have a wonderful Day!
"you'll write in RHYME~ and weave your magick in my mind.TEN LINES ONLY you have to write and cast your spell on me tonight." ~ storm goddess
The Day After Today
Droplets of Mist from a stormy night.
Teeth prints left from a rabid dogs bite.
A jingle of coins both silver and gold
A short man' s beard hair twisted and old.
Sprinkles of Nightmares creeping in the dark.
The song I ripped from the throat of a Lark.
A spell on another you asked me to weave.
But I have spelled you like you'd never believe.
So run along now and plot where you may.
For you will cease to exist the day after today!
My Life Filled With Pain
I hide behind a crooked smile.
Many times I would rather cry.
I feel as if I have no friends.
Ignored by my family.
Trampled on by those I most Love.
My life filled with Pain.
My life filled with Pain.
So long since I wore a smile.
I pretend I don't love.
I try hard not to cry.
Where are my Family?
Do I have any friends?
I used to have friends.
My life filled with Pain.
I need my Family.
I fake a lonely smile.
I refuse to Cry!
I am searching for love.
Do you seek someone to Love?
Do you search for friends?
Are those tears that you cry?
My life filled with pain.
I would like to see you smile.
Don't you have a family?
We can't always count on Family.
Some don't know how to Love.
They don't notice that you don't smile.
It's hard to count on Friends.
My life filled with Pain.
They might notice if you cry.
So many times, alone I cry!
I hide it from my loving Family.
My life filled with pain.
I shower them with Love.
I hide it from my friends.
I show them all my crooked smile.
I cry silently for their Love.
My busy family and friends.
My Pain hidden behind my smile.
"Hmmmmm...I like flowery words too. Patsy, you do a fine job even with less words! I see all of the poems as if they were pictures in my head. Try these when you are bored...40-50 words (rhyme if you like) escape, travel, love"~ Sunshine
Love Again!
Travel the lonely road.
Kiss a few frogs!
A toad?
Escape the daily drama
Unless you have kids.
You're Mama!
Seek and search and find
A true love?
Never mind!
Does it exist at all?
Can anyone really
truly fall?
Escape the pain!
Don't travel alone!
Let true Love reign.
Etheree Who?
"Poetry is plucking at the heartstrings, and making music with them." ~Dennis Gabor
"Poetry is truth in its Sunday clothes." ~ Joseph Roux
How to write your own Etheree! ~An etheree is a ten-lined poem whose structure is based on the number of syllables in each line. The first line has one syllable, the second line has two, etcetera, until you reach the tenth line with ten syllables. ~ What do I want this etheree to be about? ~Think of your longer words related to your topic. They will be much more difficult than coming up with your shorter lines. ~Write each line carefully, making sure to count your syllables. If they are not the right quantity, it is not an etheree. ~ Read it through a few times to make sure it makes sense. ~Title it!
When I first started back to writing every day, I decided to learn as much as I could about different forms of poetry. I was amazed at how many different forms there are. Even now I learn of new forms almost every day. I get e-mailed prompts that will tell me what type I am to write each day.. Of course as usual for me I signed up for every prompt I could find so I will be getting way more than I could possibly write each day! But it does give me lots of choices!
One form that I had never heard of but liked right away was the Etheree. The first time I was trying to write one I got a phone call right in the middle of it and when I told my friend I was writing an Etheree she said, "Etheree who?" I laughed because it does almost sound like a woman's name. Today's poems are all Etheree. They are much harder to write than you would think. Extra syllabels will sneak up on you if you don't count them closely. I hope you all enjoy these poems of mine today. Have a great day!!
Patsy
Etheree Who?
Who?
Not Who.
Etheree?
Yes, Etheree!
A poetry form.
Are you sure? She's Foreign?
What country is she from then?
No Not foreign. A poem Type.
Oh I can't type either. She can type?
I'll call you back when Etheree leaves then!
How
Many
words does one
Person need to
Just goodbye and you leave us four.
Like the years never touched your heart.
I bid a stranger goodbye this happy day.
The Gypsy Camp
Brass
bells ring
Children running free;
flutes echoing laughter;
cimmerian eyed beauty
hips swaying to an earthy beat.
Simple suppers roast over fire.
Welcoming the despised plebeians home.
