Happy Birthday!! .. Cooper and Smokey.. How strange.. and yet kinda cool.. to be "born" on the same day as Smokey Bear.... I am sure there are many other famous people born on this day.. But these two heroes are enough for me..
~ Cooper then.. three days old .. he is dressed and ready to leave the hospital and begin his journey through life..
~ Making noise and annoying neighbors through his teen years.. ~ Doing what he has loved best ever since he was two and tried to copy Anthony on a skate board..

~ This was last month at the beach on a family outing.. close in age the "babies are often photographed together.. They claim each other as their own heroes.. I think they most likely need a spanking and I'm pretty sure their older brother would not only agree but would offer to fly home and help me catch them if he can watch..

~ On August 9, 1944, Smokey the Bear was “born.” Smokey is responsible for sharing with people the danger of forest fires.

Oh what a day... up before daylight trying to outrun vivid dreams.. I think I surprised the dogs.. they were still too sleepy to walk.. I was soon off with Emily to appointments out of town and let me tell you that I really don't ride well.. I want to hang on.. I want to mash my brake and I don't have one.. Coming home was really special as we traveled for miles and miles at 5 miles per hour behind a truck full of drunk men who appeared to be following a moped driven by another drunk man.. the road was hilly and crooked and the traffic was heavy.. I was almost ready to have a conniption fit when Emily suddenly had all she could stand and with a quick test of her supercharger we were around them and gone .. Coming home I found Dave home from work sick with a nasty summer cold.. Emily was worn out and was soon napping on the couch.. I still hadn't seen Cooper and I really wanted to give him some birthday licks.. Dave had put supper on for me and with some excellent.. ( Y'all know I hate people in my kitchen right?) help from both him and David in the kitchen we soon had a supper of Chicken and Dumplings ready.. while Dave chunked up some cucumbers and tomatoes..( yes I said sliced..!).. I stirred up a cobbler.. It was in the oven when I began to wonder if I had put everything in... Oh well it was too late then.. all I could do was hope.. Cooper came in and asked for a brownie.. He thought the cobbler was brownies.. but decided that the cobbler was better than brownies.. Turns out he had taken himself on a skating adventure and to the beach for his own Birthday.. He crashed and hasn't made a peep since he ate two servings of the cobbler and didn't even grumble about there being no Birthday cake.. Everybody fed and tended to I walked the dogs.. washed the dishes and now here I am.. tired and sleepy and ready for bed myself.. I should feel ashamed that I didn't bake a cake.. but maybe I'll bake one tomorrow and call it out day after cake.. or maybe I'll bake those brownies he wanted instead...we will see what tomorrow brings.. So.. I thank you for visiting my blog today.. I hope your Monday was as interesting as mine was.. Have a great day!

Happy Birthday my Sweet Emily!!

"If we were not all so interested in ourselves, life would be so uninteresting that none of us would be able to endure it." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer

"Because time itself is like a spiral, something special happens on your birthday each year: The same energy that God invested in you at birth is present once again."
~Menachem Mendel Schneerson

"Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up all by itself."
~Tom Wilson

Twenty years ago..in a few more hours.. I rolled over in the hospital bed and coughed.. with just that cough Emily burst into the world.. the next few minutes were a blur.. she had managed to tangle her neck and one arm up in her cord.. she had decided to come into the world in a big way..I was surrounded by Doctors and Nurses and I think she and I were turned inside..outside and upside down before they were satisfied and she was safely delivered.. I heard a nurse call
6-11.. I hadn't a clue what that was.. I later found out it was her supposed weight.. I say supposed because when they weighed her in the nursery they said she only weighed 3 pounds and 11 ounces. They whisked her away to the incubator where she lay under the blue lights and sucked up their oxygen with her thumb tucked tightly into her tiny pursed lips..

Emily 6 weeks old... though you really can't tell from this picture she is still very tiny.. I stole her dress from a doll.. her hairband is actually a regular baby hair band cut in half.. If you look close at the bow on her head it appears to be giant for a baby hair bow.. She was a happy happy baby... sweet as sugar!!

Emily... 3 years old! She.. with Cooper's help... cut her own hair for the photo shoot.. can you tell? I was so mad with them both and she smiled and said.. But I will make a pretty picture.. I had a green Velvet dress picked out for her to wear too but she wasn't having that.. finally I decided that since the haircut was going to ruin the Pictures anyway I would just let them wear what they wanted.. she was right she made a great picture.. this is one of my favorite photo's of Emily..

Emily.. 5 years old.. one of the very few pictures of her by herself... she was proving she could stay clean for three hours.. what you don't see here is that as soon as we slid her ruffled dress back on she grabbed a cup of cool-aid and spilled it all over Cooper and Anthony./. but she did stay clean!

This is a recent picture of Emily along with her beloved.. Luke.. Happy Birthday Emily! I love You!

Emily brought a new chapter to my life.. one where we sat in hospitals and cancer clinics and drove for hours everyday for years and years... but one where I was in awe of her ability to smile even when she was in great pain.. The doctors would do a painful procedure to her and when they were done she would hug them tight.. She once told one of our very favorite doctor's.. Dr Red.. because he had red hair.. that she was "forgiving" him with a hug.. he and I both cried.. she was a good child if you over looked the hair cuts.. the painting of the walls .. the floors.. herself.. she always had a willing and ready partner for her mischief.. Cooper would do anything she said and then say it was all his idea... I am sure he had some idea's of his own and in those she was a willing accomplice....she loves to talk and has to have the last word.. were she here right now she would prove it by saying.." No I don't have to have the last word Mama..!"

smart.. and beautiful.. funny I always thought she was more like her Father but that last part sounds more like me!! Happy Birthday Emily Suzanne!! I love you!
I hope you enjoy my poem....Have a wonderful night!

My Baby Girl!

Barrettes and ribbons
Baby dolls and lace.
Ah my baby girl
Such a sweet face.

Tea parties and Teddy bears
Tree climbing, Let's race.
She might be the smallest
But she demands her own space.

Schoolwork and Boyfriends
A Friday night date.
Hey mama don't worry
I just might be out late.

Ruffles on prom gowns
A mind of her own.
I'm not sure I like this
My baby girl is grown!

Happy Birthday Me! ~ And some Rambling..

"Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children." ~George Bernard Shaw

"In childhood, we yearn to be grown-ups. In old age, we yearn to be kids. It just seems that all would be wonderful if
we didn't have to celebrate our birthdays in chronological order."
~Robert Brault

"Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed." ~Charles Schulz

Today is my Birthday.. Today I am fifty years old.. someone asked me last night if I felt fifty.. I told the truth when I said "Oh No!"... the truth is that some days I feel fifteen and girlish and other days I feel at least a hundred and old and tired.....I am not sure what it is supposed to feel like to be fifty..I asked Dave and he said it felt just like always to him.. I have to agree.. Today felt just like always to me too..

this is me with my Mom.. almost fifty years ago... Me and Mom sure have aged since then!

I am well Aware that it is Thursday!

"A man who lies to himself, and believes his own lies, becomes unable to recognize truth, either in himself or in anyone else, and he ends up losing respect for himself and for others."

"Beauty is a terrible and awful thing! It is terrible because it has not been fathomed, for God sets us nothing but riddles. Here the boundaries meet and all contradictions exist side by side."

"It's the great mystery of human life that old grief passes gradually into quiet tender joy."

Lonely Heart

her heart hankering for love

one errant tear drop glistens
a beckoning badge of innocence
to the hungry scourge that waits

Happy Birthday General!

"There is a terrible war coming, and these young men who have never seen war cannot wait for it to happen, but I tell you, I wish that I owned every slave in the South, for I would free them all to avoid this war."

"It is history that teaches us to hope."

"Never do a wrong thing to make a friend or to keep one."

"We must expect reverses, even defeats. They are sent to teach us wisdom and prudence, to call forth greater energies, and to prevent our falling into greater disasters."

"There is no more dangerous experiment than that of undertaking to be one thing before a man's face and another behind his back."

"I like whiskey. I always did, and that is why I never drink it."
~ All from Robert Edward Lee, 1807 - 1870

Robert Edward Lee was born at Stratford, Virginia on this day~ January 19th~ in 1807. He was the son of Revolutionary War hero Henry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee and Mary Curtis Lee. He graduated second in his class from West Point in 1829. He was the only cadet ever to graduate without a single demerit. Lee entered the Army Corps of Engineers after graduation and served in peacetime on various civil projects including building fortifications in St. Louis and New York harbors. He served with distinction in the Mexican American war, and his commander noted that "success in Mexico was largely due to the skill, valor, and undaunted courage of Robert E. Lee."

It was when he was, by chance, at Washington City he was sent to arrest John Brown at Harper's Ferry, W.Va., after Brown had taken over the U.S. arsenal there.

Lee was anything but eager to see the United States split. He believed in a unified country and didn't want to counteract the work of George Washington, a personal hero. Furthermore, he didn't believe in slavery. Noting that it had a detrimental effect on masters as well as slaves, he freed all the slaves he inherited.

When Lincoln offered him command of the Union Army, Lee resigned rather than lead troops against his home state of Virginia. Early in the Civil War, Lee commanded Virginia's army and naval forces, then served as a military aide to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. In July 1862, Lee took command of the Army of Northern Virginia. During the next three years Lee's leadership of this army made him famous as a general. Despite being greatly outnumbered, his army was able to win some battles, fight to stalemates in others and attack into Northern territory several times.

His men respected him as a stern taskmaster and disciplinarian. Lee was never known to smoke, drink alcohol or curse.

On April 9, 1865, General Lee Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, leading to the end of the Civil War

Lee became president of Washington College in Lexington, Va. (now Washington & Lee University). He urged Southerners to work to restore the peace and unite the country. Lee died Oct. 12, 1870, five-and-a-half years after the war ended. His courage, honor, and character made him respected even in the north. His request for amnesty was however rejected and his citizenship was not restored until 1975, when it was restored
posthumously by an act of the U.S. Congress.
