I Love to Learn New Things...

"Every man has a right to a Saturday night bath." ~ Lyndon B. Johnson

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." ~ William Shakespeare

"You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.
~ Scott Adams

Earlier this week I had a new visitor to my Blog.. He left me a comment that said I had engaged him.. I was of course thrilled with that.. I was thinking that was a good thing?.. then he invited me to his blog and I do love going on blog visits so I hurried right on over to check him out... It was there that I learned a new thing.. a new to me thing at least.. he had American Sentence poems on his blog.. I had never.. ever seen one that I remember.. never heard of them.. never wrote one myself.. that was not going to do... I liked them.. I wanted to write one.. I wanted to know more about them.. I googled and read and googled some more.. I thought many of the ones I found to be very profound and meaningful.. Most people compare them to a haiku though I think they would be more like senryu.. because of their often satirical nature.. Finally I felt that I had googled enough.. I tried to write a few of my own.. I might not be good at it yet.. these may be terrible when judged by some that were found when I googled them.. But these are mine.. and my first ones at that.. I even looked and looked for something to illustrate them with.. I hope you enjoy my first try at something new.. Mine are not as grand as his.. so I do hope you will visit his blog.. Thanks for a bump in a new direction Sepiru Chris...

~ "Direction" ~ Life spins me in so many directions.. I need a compass to find myself! 7/31/2010

.. ( and yes smarty pants..you know who you are... I do know the difference in a compass and a GPS device.. but mine has a compass in it..!)

~ "Lunch" ~ My stomach in fowl condition.. I could only eat soup and quackers.. 7/30/2010

~ "at 4 am" ~ The roosters are crowing in chorus... spurring the morning sun to rise... 7/31/2010

~ " High and Dry at the Courthouse ".. ~ Judged to be no longer useful~ a fountain thirsts in the courtyard... 7/31/2010

I hope you have enjoyed my American sentence poems.. or maybe I should only claim a try at them.. I know they aren't the best but they are what my Daddy would call "quick work".. something new.. a honest try.. They are fun.. You might enjoy writing one of them yourself.. I love learning new things.. and though these may not be perfect.. I think they see me off to a good start.. Do you know of a poetry form that I haven't tried yet.. send it along in a comment and I will surely give it a shot.. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a wonderful day!

Sepia Scenes...

~ This old Photo.. that I "borrowed" from a bunch of old 8mm slides.. almost appears to be a bridge to NOWHERE.. If I had to make a guess I'd say it is the Golden Gate.. But it is not labeled.. and I have never seen the real thing... Dave's Dad.. the late Mr. George.. made a gazillion and one photo's from as far away as Alaska and sent home to his wife and children.. I guess it was his way of letting them be a part of his work travels... This one started out as a blurry black and white but I like it better in Sepia.. I honestly wouldn't want to drive across a bridge that was shrouded in Mist like this one is.. Spooky!!

~ What is it about water that makes us cast away inhibitions and in many cases.. jump right in? Even the stodgiest old fogies will walk along the edge of the

water and get their toes wet in the ocean.. ~ from the great depths of the ocean to a narrow strip of plastic hooked to a water hose.. Water will always attract

those of us who love it..

~ What fun Cooper had daring the rest of us to join him in his slip.. sliding glee at Kirstin's Birthday Party.. It was plain that many of us adults really did want to run and slip and slide.. I have it on good authority that after the oldest of us left the young adults had a blast sliding across the plastic and right out onto the wet grass....

It's a Thunderous Thursday!

"I have forced myself to begin writing when I've been utterly exhausted, when I've felt my soul as thin as a playing card ... and somehow the activity of writing changes everything." ~ Joyce Carol Oates

"You and I know that there is a correlation between the creative and the screwball. So we must suffer the screwball gladly." ~ Kingman Brewster Jr.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
~ C. S. Lewis

Today is Thursday.. the day of the week that I share three things with my readers.. welcome to my blog today! .. I Sit listening to the thunderous roar of a storm that rides a hot wind closer and closer to us.. I am keeping a wary eye on the wind that whips the huge old trees in my yard this way and that.. I would hate for any of them to fall.. not only would I hate to be without their shade but I am very aware that they might crush this old Trailer that I call home.. We have been very lucky so far with these old oak trees... all around us many of the neighbor's trees have toppled in the last few years.. we have had limbs as big around as me to fall.. booming as they slammed into the ground.. but so far.. ( said with fingers crossed!) our trees have remained standing.. I am not afraid of storms.. in fact I enjoy them most of the time.. I have been known to venture out into a raging storm to get a dog and bring him into the house or to make sure windows were rolled up or even to drag drenched clothes from a line.. for many years I had an old rocker on the porch and would go there as soon as I had an idea that a storm was coming.. But today I will be keeping an eye out for the wind in my big trees.. the trees are old.. a few weeks ago a limb fell that could have smashed a person.. we know that we will have to have the trees took down someday.. But Lord I don't want to.. so I'll say a prayer for safe passage through the storm.. and watch from the window as the much needed rain falls from the roaring sky!.. Now.. on to the three things!

Wordless is now open any time any day..for your posting pleasure.. you can go wordless every day if you want to.. I do know that it is supposed to be wordless and I do try.. but wordless is really hard for someone who loves to talk as much as I do!..
My photo for today I call "Shared Responsibility"...

Dave and I wanted to live in the woods.. after buying this place we set about trying to plant our own little patch of woods.. we soon realized that some of our pines were way to close to each other.. earlier this year I was amazed to spot this nest resting on limbs from two separate trees.. each young pine holding on tightly to it's half of the birds nest..

#3- One Word Acrostic.. almost done now with the acrostic poem writing class I have been taking at Allpoetry.com I have learned many new and exciting things about writing these little poems with a hidden message.. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. I have done very well with it to if I do say so for myself.. I love to learn new ways to write poetry.. for this assignment we had to write two poems with hidden messages.. by writing a sentence and then using each word as a starting word for a line we more or less explain our title sentence.. this poem actually fits me very well.. I only have one more assignment before graduating this class... won't you wish me well on my final exam poem??

I Try to Learn Daily!

I struggle to be invisible.
Try to understand my plan.
To others I appear dense..
Learn more about me to see..
Daily I am ignored as secrets are revealed..

Some Saturday Stuff..

"You may not be able to read a doctor's handwriting and prescription, but you'll notice his bills are neatly typewritten."
~ Earl Wilson

"Ideas are elusive, slippery things. Best to keep a pad of paper and a pencil at your bedside, so you can stab them during the night before they get away."
~ Earl Nightingale

"I've got to feel the pencil and see the words at the end of the pencil."
~ William Faulkner

- Wordless asks us to post pictures that tell a story without words.. I love the photo below of my middle son skateboarding..

- The Photohunt word for today is Balanced- have you ever tried to balance on a rolling skateboard? How about flying through the air on one?

- The lensday word for this week was excitement.. having spent a lot of time at the various skate parks in our area.. I have seen a lot of skater excitement.. they are excited to try new ramps or jumps and even more excited to actually land something new..
I was always excited to watch the young men accomplish a new trick.. I miss hauling them all over the country to skate.. A cooler of cold drinks.. a picnic of sandwiches and chips.. some toys for Mason and a book and camera for me and we were off..

Camera Critters
~ This week for Camera Critters I am sharing some of my own animals..

~ Lucy~ a ringed neck dove.. she and her Husband Joe serenade us while we feed the fowl every day.. we love to hear them Cooing..
~ Janet~ a polish top hat hen.. yes she has some weird feathery hair on her head.. but she is a sweetheart and gentle too.. plus she lays me a warm fresh egg every day!
~ and this guy... we bought him from a man that swore this was a hen... Of course it is hard to tell when they are very young.. we tossed him into the growing up pen where most young roosters will practice their crow and let us know not to add them to the harem of an old rooster.. they will practice holding the young hens down and chase each other around in the pen.. This fellow grew up silently and we really took him to be a hen.. we had a few young roosters who had already started crowing and doing their sideways.. I need a hen dance.. scratching the ground and fluffing out their feathers as they sidestepped and made a clucking sound.. so we chose a rooster for this guy... needless to say as soon as he saw his new "husband" he jumped up on a stick and crowed his head off.. I had named him Delila.. I don't think that name works for a rooster.. do you?? If you have a suggestion for this guy a new name leave me a comment... He needs a name.. he is a beautiful rooster... I will choose a name for him from those offered in comments.. and I will post it on here.. Have a great night!
Patsy
update~ we were offered two names.. Ricky and Delta.. we have decided on calling this guy Ricky.. we both liked the name Delta and will be naming our next rooster Delta.. Have a great day!
