I hate those musty minutes
no fresh air to be found

Monday Poetry Train Revisited-

Spring is officially here.. I love the colorful flowers that are popping up every where.. The hens are all getting broody and have been laying extra eggs all of last week and again today.. it is possible for a hen to lay twice in one day but that is also very rare.. or at least that's what they say.. I did get six eggs today from a pen that only holds five hens.. Dave and I haven't decided yet to let the hens hatch their own chicks.. we fear that because they can run in and out through the wire.. they would become snacks for our dogs.. right now the incubator is full of chirping eggs.. three quail have already hatched and I wasn't expecting the chicks before next week.. I guess they have decided to hatch a little early.. I also have duck and turkey eggs in there.. I have never hatched either of those before and am eagerly waiting for them to hatch.. The Turkeys do still have a couple of eggs in the pen with them.. Mr. Tom broke the first few that the hens laid.. I don't know rather he intended to or if he was trying to roll them into the nest that they wallowed out in the hay at the back of the pen.. we were determined to save a couple of turkey babies so we took what he hadn't broken and added them to the incubator too.. Dave came in and said they had more eggs last week but when I looked I realized that they were setting on an old potato that I gave them along with their supper.. This morning I looked again and they now have two eggs .. an onion.. a golf ball .. a rock and one potato in the nest.. maybe something will hatch..

Prompt #12 for 2011: Inseparable
Inseparable
The curtain parted and the porch light came on.. Mama was peering out at us with owl eyes.. so afraid I might give up a tiny kiss on her sacred doorstep.. It was a good thing she hadn't seen us an hour ago.. seemingly inseparable..dancing on the bluff overlooking the city.. swaying to the soft sounds of violin music that rose from the music school down below.. I almost laughed as his wicked smile flashed and he shook my hand on Mama's porch.. "Goodnight Mrs Jones.." he said loud enough for her to hear.. "Goodnight Young Man.." we replied in unison..

Pen from forming fine words.
Creativity bound tight.
No thoughts Appearing on Paper.
I rest Atop your grayness and sing.
I then write a poem to you; Writer's Block.

all week I have tried to come up with something witty and smart for the prompt that deals with something each of us.. who fancies ourselves as writers.. must face at some time.. writers block..
I am almost always able to twist words around to make something that passes for a poem or even a short story without to much trouble.. there are days when I don't want to write.. they are few and far between thankfully.. I do find that brownies often help.. this is my offering for "Against the grain"...
Against the Grain
words spill from my pen
meaningless gibberish all
brownies scent the air

The Spirits Whisper
Heavy purple plums glisten
sumptuously tempting
the deep shade inviting
yet the viper wavers not...
Promise of wisdom her lure
she trails the serpents path
climbing and winding.. winded
His promise her greatest desire
figs.. rosy sweetness bursting forth
she ignores.. following mindlessly
jagged rocks and itching vines
surround her.. clinging.. impeding
The beast crawls on
never looking back
trusting that she follows
unwavering into temptations snare
eyes blinded to all treasures
passionate only for knowledge
of all evil.. her goodness set aside
she stumbles to paradise's heart
thunder welcomes her shame
thorns climb.. separating sin
as mankind finally.. knows
all possible Immorality...
And the Spirits whisper...
You poor unfortunate souls

Happy Birthday Barbie!!
Barbie was born on this day in 1959 at the American International Toy Fair held in New York City... Ruth Handler had noticed that even though her daughter had only baby dolls.. she played with them as if they were much older.. looking for an adult doll She found Lilli.. though she was unaware that the German doll was modeled after a cartoon lady of the evening.. She convinced her husband Elliot.. to bring a similar doll to market... Mattel named the doll after Ruth and Elliot's daughter.. Barbie.. and has sold over a billion of them... a good many of them to me.. I even have a Lily doll that I was lucky enough to dig out of a box of old Barbies at a junk store.. I love to tell people that Barbie and I are the same age.. I guess though that she is actually a few months older than me.. I have many Barbies stored in boxes and cases.. I love to sew and crochet clothes for them and for the large family of dolls that has developed over the years.. Cousins.. boyfriends.. best friends... children.. furniture and even pets of Barbie are highly collectible..

The Gap
the generations are diverse
as different as can be
generation gaps exist
in every family tree
Grandma had the radio
Hitler and two wars
"sacrifice" and "stay in line"
the first co-ed bars
My Mama saw Vietnam
Woodstock and the moon
television.. birth control
and phones in every room
Now generation x is here
and hero's don't exist
but we have the Internet
and fancy e-mail lists
the millennial's have seen so many things
Katrina and face-book
you scoff - but know our purple hair
invite those second looks
each generation changes things
not always for the best
but heart to heart and hand to hand
we give the gap a rest

"You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus."
- Mark Twain
"I'm content to stand on tradition. I'm even more content to wipe my feet on it."
- Aaron Allston

We Write Poems- Prompt #43 - Guardian Angel
My Guardian Angel
Smudge of dirt
upon his cheek.
Scratch on his left knee.
Curly hair
a tangled mess.
Reminding me
~ of me.
Poorest soul~
who drew the lot:
My guardian to be!

" Turn around.. twist.. skip.. jump up .. jump down.. stand on one foot.. hop left.. hop right.. OK.. blink.. dance.. wave and nod...
Reuben you are out.. yes out.. you know you are out.. you nodded.. I know I said nod.. but you weren't supposed to nod..
Alright.. is everybody ready.. turn around three times then spit.. yes I said spit..clap.. raise your hands in the air and clap..
David you're out too.. you clapped.. even if you didn't mean to you did clap.. you raised your hands right up in the air and clapped..
It's hot out here..holler if you're hot.. sit down.. stand up.. run in place.. hold hands.. take three steps forward..
Tyler and Tana both of you are out.. I saw you both stepping.. stepping gets most people so don't be ashamed.. yep you stepped..
It's time to pick up the pace now yawl..laugh.. sing.. shout.. skip.. look up.. look down.. put your hands in the air.. pull your ear.. pick your nose.. let your left eye open.. then close..
Oh NO! Kirstin .. I saw your eye.. it closed.. then opened.. then closed.. bad as I hate to say it.. you are out.. Lizzy don't look so smug.. your eye winked and blinked and rolled around.. see .. there it goes again.. that sad little eye rolling in your head.. you're still out..
Now we are ready.. I am ready for fun.. every body stretch.. stretch left.. reach.. reach and stretch right.. lift your left knee up.. squat.. kick.. Dance.. dance.. dance..
Silly me..it's no wonder no one danced.. Sometimes I almost catch myself being silly.. what I should have said was.. Simon Says Dance! "
